Honestly, I think Edwards is our best pure back at this point in the season. KMac is a better catcher or at least he's had more catches, but he's had more thrown to him also. Edwards has always seemed to be our toughest runner. Even last year during mop-up duty when he was playing with the 2s and 3s he ran with an attitude, low and behind his pads. This year I think his vision has improved and he seems even faster and more aggressive, especially through the hole. Robinson is gonna be good, no doubt. He's just not there yet, but yesterday I feel like he got his legs under him and he gained a lot of confidence and it showed.

"Not there yet"?

He ran for 98 yards as a 4th string on Saturday.

That dude is what our play action will key off of. Without Branson's type of production, you have games like Missouri.

The only downside to our running back personnel is that it telegraphs our blocking scheme.

That said, the defense still has to stop it.

Edwards is almost exclusively zone and split zone.
Milton/Robinson are almost exclusively power/counter.
McIntosh runs the best balance of the 2.

I'd like to see us throw to edwards more. See if he can duplicate McIntosh's route tree. That would open up a lot more to the offense .

I'd like to see more 2x RB sets especially while the WR corps is beat up.

That would solve 2 problems.

We actually show it a good bit.

It was the primary goalline formation for the first 4 weeks.

We showed it in the 2nd half, yesterday.

I agree that it has been pretty successful on the year.

On an aside. I was surprised to see Auburn in 2 back set as much as they were.

They have their 3rd string QB playing and Tank and Hunter are talented backs. Getting those guys in the field makes sense.

Post I made way earlier on the year, surprised it took him those long to get meaningful snaps....

Damn.
That was when? Those numbers are most likely higher now.

He has another year under him. All I’m saying is that it’s very obvious that before it’s all said and done Robinson will be the best out of all of them.

That was high school, he obliterated the Mississippi state record in weight lifting in the 220lb class.

I try not to pay attention to the recruits until they get on campus, but his power lifting numbers as a Junior caught my eye. I think he broke the state records as a HS Junior, and with those actually being in power lifting competitions instead of just a Rivals or 247 provided number they are 100% legit.

Funny, early in the season, many (including me) thought that our run game is what would hold our offense back.

A good, productive running game completely sets up the passing game for increased success with play action passes, so we need both, I will always be of the mindset that you need to be able to do both pass and run successfully to be a championship football team in college or the NFL...
