The Mendoza Line originated in Athens. Five or six of their tracks on their later albums are on my favorite songs playlist. The music is subdued but the dual guitar interplay is tasty.

The "Bulk" compilation has Shrunken Head on it. The whole CD is a strange menagerie of different styles.

Every song is catchy.

Fifteen Years In Indiana
Optimist
Female Jesus
Chloroform
Giant City, Tiny Town
New Used Car and A Plate of BBQ
Graves Are Fun to Dig
Floating Cowboy
Escape Clause
Underneath Your Bed
Etc, etc

Every song is unique and not many of his songs can be placed into a certain genre. The diversity of his songs is not typical.

It was two CDs wasn't it? The thin case kind where you peeled back the disc holder and there was another disc stored in the back of the case. As opposed to the double thick CD case with the black plastic divider in the middle separating the access doors for both discs. Making it the size of two CD cases glued together basically. Like Neil Young "Decade".

GCD was popular at the same time The Smithereens were making the college rounds. I liked them both.

I always liked this one. Floating Cowboy. Tells a pretty cool story. Fifteen Years In Indiana and Female Jesus are on the same page.

There's nothing "catchy" about it, imo.

In fact, I would bet that unless someone lived in an athens GA music snob commune, that Jack Logan's "Bulk" has never been played more than two songs in a row in front of a group of people without most of them complaining or leaving the room.

Not saying its bad. Just saying.

I agree with that. He appeals most to people who put a premium on songwriting as storytelling. It is definitely not a party or gathering type of music. I would not want to hear it when among a gathering of people either. It is great, at least for me, to listen to when driving alone or at home alone.

I'm gonna go pull an old box down from the attic, cut it open, and see if I can find something good or really embarrassing from the athens days....

Box I cut into ended up being half DVDs and half Cds … . .I own “The Best of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog” on DVD btw mf'ers. Get some.

There's also some serendipity on the CD front. First athens related CD in the stack has Jack Logan credited in the liner notes "Centerfold Drawing by Jack Logan"

I can't link it or even link the music because it doesn't exist in the e-world.

It's a pencil drawing of G. Reece sitting on what looks like some sort of V8 throttle body kit with flames and there's caricatures of his bandmates behind him. 9 of them.

Here is the original version of their cover version on "Good Eatin" by Redneck G.Reece Delux though. Which I thought all this time was their song. But apparently, it's by a man named Johnny Russell.

Keep forgetting when I'm at.....

*Note for present day non-music nerds:

YOu used to have to physically buy your music. And SOmetimes you'd find gems printed on the back of the CD cover art. They're called liner notes, i think.

Last one of note from Box 1. Nothing to do with athens. Forgot it existed. But, someone may need to hear this.
