No link just yet. Car's totaled, but he should be okay.

He is apparently doing well considering his car. Family is now with him in Athens.

This is surprising to you?
Even if it is $10k in front end repair, it's still probably a $25k+ car.
The bigger worry is that his front end ran into something else, presumably another vehicle. So unless this other vehicle ran a red light directly into Arik's path, I foresee lots of lawyers and chiropractors involved, which really really sucks for Arik.

How do they know it is totalled so fast
Crumple zones. They’re so safe but the unibody gets bent up real easy.
My brother got backed over by a power company truck at low speeds in my moms old Mercedes and it was totaled.

That's the same pic from the Dawgnation link I posted.
From that angle could just need new front end and a radiator, maybe new hood, don't know if airbags deployed or how much that damage costs.

Because it costs $10k to repair the front bumper and headlights on a Mercedes

Maybe frame damage?

I know a couple adjusters. Insurance company has you download an app, you take picture, they’re uploaded, adjuster looks at them and can total a car. I am sure there’s a checks and balances.

Insurance company basically looks at salvage value from the vehicle. Subtracts that from the vehicle's worth. That tells you the most they will spend on repairs.
If the damage truly is $10k on a newer Mercedes, it probably isn't totaled (even if the owner wants it to be).

I have no idea if this is totaled or not. I just know they can figure it out pretty quickly. They do it all remote now.
