No doubt. I was decked out in UGA attire at the Masters when I “met” BW.....would’ve figured that would be a friendly meet and greet but after the article about his crowd phobia hit, I wished I wouldn’t have even bothered. He came off as a total a-hole.
That said, his shot during the playoff in Augusta on the 10th in 2012 showed he’s got the balls and the skill to do what so few can with a stick and ball. His shot and Tigers 2005 16th hole chip in have to be the two greatest golf shots I’ve ever watched.

I don’t know the odds but I’d have to say Bubba, DJ, Tiger, Phil, and Rory have to be feeling pretty good heading into the best week of sporting entertainment. I can’t wait to step back on to the HOLY LAND. Only 7 more days....

DOT34,

Can you please share your expertise and seed your top 10 twenty-18 Masters favorites for us. As of today

I think it's going to be an incredibly challenging field based on how well everyone is playing right now.

My favorites as of right now:
1. Justin Rose - Incredible form + great history at Augusta. I'd be a little more concerned about his chances if he were the front runner, but there are so many other big names and stories going in right now.
2. Bubba Watson - Very hit or miss at Augusta, with his only top 15 finishes being the two times he won, but he's in amazing form and lefties love that golf course. So much of it with Bubba is about his attitude, and if he has a good attitude going in, he definitely should contend. Like him more as a winner vs. top 10 guy
3. Jordan Spieth - Not in great form, and the putter has been struggling, but he's only lost to 13 people in his four years at Augusta so far. He just loves that course and plays incredibly well there, but if he's not making those 10 footers, he's not going to finish near the top 10.
4. Phil Mickelson - Similar to Rose, he has a great course history at Augusta and is in great form. I'm not sure how he'll do handling the pressure on Sunday if he has a chance, but I believe that win in Mexico did wonders for his confidence.
5. Justin Thomas - Playing the best golf of anyone in the world right now. Only played in the Masters twice, but showed improvement last year there. Struggled on the 1st two days of the tourney last year, but played well on the weekend. I really like his chances to get the green jacket this year.
6. Paul Casey - Finished top 6 the last three years at the Masters. Only 3 finishes outside of the top 25 since last year's Masters. Fits my criteria of good course history, great form. Like him more as a top 10 guy vs. a winner, but we still should see a good performance out of him.
7. Dustin Johnson - Feel like DJ's flying in completely under the radar right now because he hasn't won since January, but it's not like he's not been playing good golf (outside of the Match Play). He's one of those guys who can be struggling to play well, and still somehow end up with a top 10 finish.
8. Tiger Woods - This might be a little high for Tiger, but it's hard to ignore how good he's been at Augusta, and his recent play has been incredibly encouraging. If his Driver improves, he will absolutely be in the mix on the weekend. It's just such a long course, it's going to be harder for him to keep it in the bag this week. If it's a lower score like -5 to win vs. a birdie fest, I like Tiger's chances even more.
9. Rory McIlroy - I know some have him higher than me, I just don't trust his putter yet. And a guy who isn't putting well at Augusta has next to a zero percent chance to win.
10. Sergio Garcia - I have a hard time not putting the defending champ in the top 10, so I feel like I need to include Sergio on this. Loves the course so much he just named his first child Azalea. He'll have a lot of duties the week of as the reigning champion that sometimes makes it difficult to concentrate the way you should on your golf leading up to the tournament.

Others considered: Fowler, Day, Oosthuizen, Aphibarnrat, Cantlay, Dechambeau

Everyone has a natural putting stroke. Some people play their hands more forward in the putting stroke which decreases effective loft of the club. Adding loft in this situtation, assuming Bubba has a forward press with his hands at impact so this will, in theory, create a "purer" roll.

This sums up the pouting man-child Sergio Garcia just about perfectly.

All those years he struggled at Augusta, he'd stand there on the property as a guest and give interviews about how much he hated the course and how unfair it was and and how he didn't understand why everyone made a big deal out of the tournament and boo hoo whoa is meeee.

But.....when he breaks through and wins, he's now naming his offspring after one of the holes.

I really hope someone in the media points this out. Also, I really hope he misses the cut every time he tees it up at the Masters the rest of his entire life.

Makes sense. Thanks.

So, basically he's not adding any loft at contact. He's just taking away the forward loft that exists because of the new alignment from some fancy new putter grip deal he learned.

I think I'd have JT at #1.

As far as having only played in two Masters, his BFF wonder-boy almost won it in his first Masters appearance, and did win it in his second. So, maybe tournament experience there isn't as big a deal for the whipper-snapper brigade.

Basically, ya. Most putters come with a standard loft around 3 degrees (I think - not a pro, just an avid player/fan). If he leads his stroke with his hands, this will effectively decrease the loft (ex: 3 degree putter face, but presenting at -1 degrees since his hands in front) and cause him to hit down on the ball. When you see the ball bounce a little bit when its hit, this is usually what happens.

So he bought a new putter/bent the face a little to have a higher degree so that his new stroke will effectively present 0 degree loft.

Now I really want to get out and hit some balls lol.

What’s your take on that guy who has all of his clubs the same length? I’m 6’5 and have always struggled with shorter clubs....but when I’ve been fit I end up with +2s and it’s like swinging a tree trunk for longer irons.

I have a old set of I2s and was thinking of fitting them all with an 8 or 7 length shaft. I’m sure it would screw with the distances but it’d be interesting to see if they were easier to hit.

I've never hit with one-length irons or seen anyone use them, but originally I thought the idea was pretty interesting. I could definitely see the benefit of only having one ball position, stance width etc, but I bet you're right that you lose distance.

I am sure you can find a demo set at a shop or course somewhere and try it out. But it also may be a matter of ball position and distance from the ball with your lower irons.

Damn Im getting a hard-on for the Masters now.

That guy seems like a good dude, but holy shite is it excruciating to watch him play the game. I'm pretty sure he has that disorder where you have to wash your hands 500 times a day.

I mean , if Bubba is on the far end of the spectrum with his unorthodox creative style of instinct and feel, DeCahmbeau is on the exact polar opposite far end of the spectrum with his onorthodox mechanical-engineer's physics and science OCD approach.

Would be hilarious to watch them square off in a final group someday. They're both brilliant pioneers with the same exact goal.....it's just crazy to think about how opposite their methods of going about it are.

Think I'm changing my order. JT is #2 behind Rose. Slide everyone else down a spot. Moving Paul Casey to #10 as well. Think he's playing great and very well could get a top 10 finish. Just don't think he's as likely to win.
