Yes. But you also know that you don’t want to wear out your pitchers’ arms before the only tournament that truly matters. I said I wanted to win, I’m not entirely indifferent about it. But it’s not nearly as big of a deal as you are making it out to be.

We won 2/3 games against tournament level teams this week. That’s fine for momentum.

Gee. I bet we would get a top 8 seed, or maybe even a 5 or 6, if we beat Ole Miss and Vandy. Going into the regionals with a win, and maybe some hot hitting to go with our pitching, would give the team a boost. If you have ever played competitively you know I'm right.

Ive played in college. Ive coached in college. Ive coached against Georgia in Foley. So I think I know what I am talking about.

This is a load or horse shite. If the team would have went 0-2 like last year where no one played well, then it would be different.

Georgia beat a top 8 seed in Arkansas and another top 25 team in Texas A&M. Pitching was good. Hitting was timely. They didnt need to do anything else, and they knew that.

The monkey is off their back from not winning games in the SEC Tournament. If you actually think another win or two in Hoover will make a difference, then you really have no clue what you are talking about.

I'll put it this way. I'll give you two choices:

Would you rather be 2018 Virginia basketball, who won the ACC tournament but lost in the first round to UMBC, or would you rather be 2019 Virginia basketball, who lost in the ACC tournament semis and then won the national title?

UNC blows the doors off Tech to win the ACC tourney and Ole Miss is doing the same to Vandy

Vandy and Tech will still both end up national Seeds

I don’t understand why they’re mutually exclusive. Why can’t you win the SEC and go to Omaha? I know I’m not familiar with college baseball, but I’m pretty sure you could do both.

You can do both but the nature of baseball makes it incredibly hard to do. You have to be both extremely talented and very lucky to do both

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say winning the SEC does not affect your odds of winning in the tournament at all. Not a single percentage point.

I'd still rather save the pitching for the tournament that actually matters

They have a whole week to rest. I doubt one more day makes any difference.

None of us are saying we were trying to lose or hoping the team would lose. Just realizing that it isn’t a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

That’s understandable. I just find the idea that winning the SEC is a bad thing to be moronic.

In college it matters a big deal.

Professional pitchers have been ingrained to pitch every 5 days. Look at minor league teams. A ball teams like Rome(Braves) ease their pitchers into a set time pitching. Hell they even do it in AA. A couple innings every 5 days for the first month, then they start them out pitching more.

Now imagine college pitchers. Locey or Hancock have been slated as the Friday or Saturday guy for how long? Giving them a weeks rest. Why do you think both pitched on Saturday and on pitch counts and working on pitches like it was MLB spring training.

Its not 1962. A pitchers body(especially a kid thats 18-21 years old) gets used to pitching a certain time, and you stick to that because thats what their bodies are used to and thats what they are used to mentally. This isnt a 38 year old Randy Johnson pitching three staight days in the World Series to win it all for Arizona. These are kids.

Ryan Webb pitched twice in a weekend once.
Justin Glover did it twice.
Logan Moody did not do it.
Kristofak did it three times.

Those are the guys that have a sub 4 era for the team. It wasnt common for them to continuously pitch day after day. Georgia had 15 weekend series(counting SEC Tourney) and our top relievers hardly ever pitched multiple times. You dont pitch them multiple times on a weekend when there is no potentially movement seeding wise.

I don’t think Ole Miss and Vandy were pissed that they had to play for an SEC title today.

I doubt their coaches left the locker room after winning Saturday swearing under their breaths about the wins.

Again, I’m ok with moving on to the more important tournament, but the idea that winning the SEC is bad is stupid.

Ole Miss has gone from potentially being a #3 seed to possibly hosting because of this weekend. Thats why they are still playing hard.

Have you seen Vandy? They literally could pitch their worst pitchers(What theyve been doing) and still have the firepower to win. There is a reason they are the best team in the nation. Their last pitchers are better than most weekend starters, and their offense is elite.

Let me put it this way.

Would you rather have Hancock/Locey pitch normally and defeat Ole Miss, and then Logan Moody pitch 4-5 innings and the Pasqua pitch maybe the next four on Sunday for a meaningless trophy. Or would you rather have our two All Conference pitchers make sure they are ready for the tournament that matters and then have every single pen arm ready and fresh for Friday night? Realizing, that if we win all three games, we play Friday/Saturday/Sunday, but if for some reason we lose one, we have to double up on Saturday and maybe Sunday, and will need every arm fresh.
