I watched the game Saturday but this is just now sinking in.....35 yards passing.

When is the last time we had a total this low?

And don't blame the fricking weather okr.

Dawgnation article makes a good point:

LINK

"Florida played at South Carolina earlier in the day in what was described as a “driving rain.” Gators quarterback Kyle Trask still managed to complete 21 of his 33 passes for 200 yards and four touchdowns. Gamecocks quarterback Ryan Hilinski threw it plenty as well – going 17/35 for 170 yards and a touchdown.

Furthermore, Smart stepping to a podium to attempt to explain away a stymied UGA offense is becoming a bit of a troublesome trend.

There was the weather on Saturday. However last week, we were told everything was fine with the offense — despite losing to South Carolina and only scoring 17 points –because there were four uncharacteristic turnovers. And when UGA got off to a slow start against Notre Dame? That was fine too because it was all about wearing down the Fighting Irish for the fourth quarter."

35 passing yards before heading into Jacksonville is very worrisome as UF defense will prob be one of the more complete defenses we have faced this year.

I'm not sure what we are going to do on Offense in 2 weeks but this shite we are doing now does not work against competent Defenses.

So the weather in Columbia was the exact same in sanford stadium at a different time of day?

We have fans looking to make mountains out of mole hills.

We need to improve. But the overreaction is just that.

35 Yards passing with A 3rd year starter at QB, "best oline in college football" and a young but very talented WR group.....

35 yards.....

to mee anything under 100 is considered a bad day...35 is like retard levels.

I'm sorry but that is troublesome.

I'm pretty sure I could have suited up, not looked at the play book, and thrown dump passes to the tight ends over and over and beaten those numbers.

Had to have gotten 5"s of rain or more while the ball game was played.....

More aggravated over situational calls in that one.

Does it matter though? We tried a ton of short passes but we did what our offense is designed to do. Grind them down in the first half and run wild in the second half.

Of course, just looking at the numbers is troublesome. UF and SC had the benefit of playing earlier in the day with periods without rain.

It never stopped raining in Athens, if anything, it got worse and then stabilized but the constant rain sucked for the guys.

Go play pick up ball in your backyard next time it rains and don't make any bad throws, don't drop off your speed, don't slip, etc. I'm just as unhappy with the inability to put together a 4Q game just as anybody else...but my expectations for this game went out the window. We needed to win and get out of there.

If you ever played ball in high school or college, then you understand. Everything is just off. From vision, to footing, to timing, to confidence...it's the ultimate way to level the playing field. Ask the 49ers and Skins how it was playing in wet conditions? 151 yards for Jimmy G and 77 yards for Case. But hey, UGA should be different.

It doesn't matter anymore, the next 2 weeks of practice and the game on 11/2 is all that matters.

Tech's punter threw for more yards and touchdowns.

I played in High school and while it raining obviously makes things difficult. We should have accidentally thrown for more yards.

Thats ridiculously low even for bad weather.

against UK? Thank god no, but can you sit there and tell me you feel confident that what we have been doing all year is going to work against Mizz, UF, and Auburn?

Call me crazy but I am not exactly confident we can put points up in those games.

It was literally a perfect storm that made sense to concentrate on our running game.
1. The weather was horrendous. The rain was so hard and steady that it was impossible to keep the ball dry.
2. Turnovers in the SC game created a paranoid climate that basically said: don't turn the ball over and you will win the game against a less talented team.
3. Our best receiver was still not playing.
4. We ran the ball effectively against Kentucky in our previous meeting last season.

Fromm did complete one short pass for a first down that kept a scoring drive alive.
Plus, we might well have learned something about run blocking and how to run the ball on the outside which was the difference in the game in the 2nd half.

Obviously you're on this board and not on the field or in the league so I guess you guys didn't accidentally throw for more yards in the rain, sun or snow :)

Yeah, it's low, but luckily we didn't need it to be high. The offense has it's concerns but grading it off of that game is stupid--there's no way to see if there's change until UF.

Does it change anything when Fromm tells the coaches that he doesn't have a good grip on the ball and doesn't know how it will come out?

Should we throw more passes with that information coming direct from the QB?

We won. That was the gameplan.
We scored 3 straight TD drives to end the game.
The first half was butt ugly. But it worked. It will not be the same gameplan against florida.

Read that as well. Not sure if true but commendable if so.
You want a leader? That's a leader. Letting you know what he can and can't do. He could of went in there and said no, give me the chance and chucked up INTs or incompletions that don't move the ball. But he didn't...he ate his pride in hopes of what was best for the team.

You sure about that? Kirby has defended this type of offensive strat all year.

I hope to god I am wrong, but if we try to run and punt and play defense against UF we are going to lose.

AU's DL scares me because we've been playing like crap up the middle when it comes to blocking.

UF has given up over 200 plus yards running the last two games so I'm not overly concerned about it. It's still a CTG coached defense that gives up the edge on most running plays. I think we'll score some points against them. If we can keep their offense from scoring early we'll be ok.

Mizzou just fricking lost to an awful Vanderbilt. I think we'll be okay.

But the passing game is a concern. If we don't start passing over the middle we're going to keep being on the struggle bus on offense.

In the rain, against KY, relying on the run game & defense was a sound plan. And worked. We ground them down & scored 21 in the second half. Defense brought the shutout.

And remember, it wasn’t just GA not passing. KY didn’t have a single reception till the final minute. The rain mattered.

Anyways, while some are focused on the lack of passing, I’m more concerned with the first half run game. Why no scores? Imo, too many straight up the gut runs. I believe in our OL but I’d like each series peppered with more designed plays to allow our RBs to bounce outside the tackles. The tendency of defenses is to collapse the middle bc of our tendency to run it there. I hope we see some diversity in running plays vs UF.

As well as more short to medium over the middle passing. I don’t remember the last time I saw a successful slant.

The weather in Columbia was much less severe looking at the stats. Gusting to 24 in Sanford and gusting to 12 in Columbia. Quite the difference honestly.

Not trying to excuse anything, but it wasn’t the same weather

Except those numbers weren't based on a low completion percentage. Nearly every pass was a completion, they just didn't go very far (mostly).
