I’ve said this before, once again dawgs are fools gold again this year. Pump up the record against cupcakes and can’t even beat a 9-7 SEC team at home. Something’s just never change.

Beats the Crean years when there was no point in tuning in. But this is why I don’t get emotionally invested in this squad; no reason to believe they’ll ever be anything more than fodder for an actual good basketball team making a run through the tourney. Maybe White is basketballs Richt and the next guy down the line will be able to capitalize and advance on a program that is at least back to stable and mostly competitive.

The AD will have to make a conscientious effort to put resources into elevating the program to take the next step though.

I didn’t get to watch this one…obviously a shite sandwich to lose to these guys at home. Can anyone give me the real synopsis on what went wrong? And is this a case of, team played like shite and got served or are people starting to key on things for us and there are glaring issues?

Things I notice from a box score.

We outrebounded them.
Left 8 free throws on the table.
Somehow only shot 37 percent.
We seem to be trying to shorten our rotation despite flaunting depth. Wilkins and stag combined for 4 minutes. Back to back games with heavy minutes in places and lightening up in others.
Cain and Dylan James combined for 9 points in 38 minutes. Can’t have it.

Team struggles when Cain does.

I watched the 2nd half.
My observations:
Wilkinson was hot from 3 point land and had a lot of layups scoring 32 points.
But he did not have enough support from the rest of the team.
We had a decided advantage with Cyril on the inside but we did not get the ball into him (Cyril only scored 7 points); instead there we a lot of blocked shots on the inside by players trying to make layups/draw fowls who should have been feeding Cyril under the basket.

Dumb fouls likely cost us the game down the stretch. Cyril kept coming out to defend instead of staying near the basket and got a reach-in foul trying to cover a guard. Then he basically pushed one of their players down under the basket and fouled out of the game with 5 minutes left so he wasn't even in the game for the overtime play.
Bottom line: I don't know if it's coaching or players not listening but our players need to play smarter.

The most basic possible answer is that when Cyril can’t play (fouls out, gets ejected) we lose. Wilkinson is quietly our best player but Cyril is who the whole operation runs through and his absence is glaring. He has to grow up with his decision making and emotions but he needs more consistent help around him too.

To that same end, we simply do not have anyone other than Wilkinson who can seem to consistently hit 3s. Cain, Smurf, Ross, James all just brick shot after shot and it kills rhythm/momentum and adds even more pressure on Somto to deliver below or risk fouls.

Pieces are there but pretty clear where the cracks are right now

Big game today. We need this win but Arkansas will be tough. We win if Wilkinson, Cain, and Cyril show up. Go Dawgs!

Blue I think is the key. He may not be the points engine for us every game but we tend to go as he does. When he’s playing good basketball, the team really excels

Somto to the locker room :/

Edit: And he’s back to dunking on people.

25-12 dawgs and we are playing very very efficient basketball

And he’s hurting again with a shot to the ribs.

Announcers just said UGA is 3rd in the country with tempo. Crazy the difference year over year. With 3-4 guys off the bench that are about the same as starters, we can keep that up.

Key to our season will be getting into a rhythm with the 3s, hitting FTs all game and staying out of foul trouble from our big man

It may just be how games have gone but the last two I felt we shortened our rotation sort of and worked the freshman (stagg and Wilkins) to very short almost no minutes.

Not sure If it was comfort playing conference games, but all of that to say. A really good fist half for Jake in some extra run. 11 pts (4-4) , 1 steal, 1 board in 5 minutes

Here we go again….stupid shots, lazy rebounding effort…

Now up only 3, 59-62 and CMW doesn’t call a timeout again.

19 point lead to this with no meaningful timeouts. Don’t understand that.

I think White is looking for a leader to step up or a guy to take over when they start reeling. He needs a coach on the floor. People talk shite about Cain but that is exactly what he is doing right now.
