im pretty annoyed at the mississippi state draw.

aside from the fact that we could go 5-2 or 4-2 against a team over the course of a season and be eliminated by them, it's just fun to play different teams. kind of the point of a national tournament.

we've already gone 4-0 against them. why should they get another chance against us? basically the entire season was meaningless. being significantly better than them over 60 games and the only thing that came out of it was that we get the series at home? idk just seems dumb.

Could have made Miss St the #15 seed and Kansas the #14 seed. Pretty easy flip.

Discourse online about throwing your #1 starter in game 1 vs game 2

I think I'm good with throwing the best arm in game 1. But I reserve the right to get mad about it if the regional goes downhill

It was dumb when we did it last year but we also have a lot more to work with on the mound this year. Curious if we pitch Joey on a count, especially if we get up big early. Last year we kind of need Leighton to go deep to reserve the pen but I think we could get by with Joey + Stephens, Jameson, etc today

it frankly seems like, although we have a set order, the rotation is fairly equal and our pitching strength comes in depth, not top of the line quality.

emerson hancock isnt on this roster. im fine with sticking with it.

On a micro level, I don't like it. Both our Fri/Sat starters can be headcases and go really hot and cold but Volchko has been our Friday starter the entire season for a reason. To throw our #1 arm against a team we should beat with our backups jsut seems a waste. With Vigue kinda sucking lately, it seems like maybe it'd have been better to throw him tonight, or hell jsut goa head and start off with a bullpen game and save all 3 arms for the rest of the regional shoudl we need it. After last year's meltdown, it'd seem like "just get out of the regional by any means necessary then figure out the rest" would be an ok mantra.

With all of that being said though....I've seen specualtion that we did this to keep the normal rotation we've had all season through the supers. The Super Regional schedule is next Friday-sunday so from that standpoint it makes perfect sense to throw our top 3 guys in order to keep them on their normal rest schedule and not make things all crazy this late in the season.

From doing a bit of reading it appears that Liberty has 2 GREAT pitchers surprisingly. Lots of smaller teams have a dude or two but I was a bit taken aback at just how good their top 2 guys are. With as elite as we are it's crazy to think that we might be sweating that next game, but I'm definitely pulling for BC to win today.

Side note: Hancock has finally found it in MLB. He is off to a great start for Seattle this season.
