The hive mind is strong there. SoFL clearly gets inside info, even if he leans Disney. I'm still a Jeff fan, despite not sharing where kids are going anymore.

Rusty went cloudy on Arik Gilbert; sounds like the UTerd teammates are winning the battle right now.

Meh. Let me know when someone else follows suit. Rusty has been a mixed bag lately and I’ve heard nothing but positive on the Gilbert front even in the face of the Marietta teammate stuff

All of the Darnell Washington interviews lately have been interesting. He seems very pro UGA, but mentions Theo Johnson much more often than Gilbert.

I get the sense they don't want to compete with each other, but I'm just reading between the lines, have no inside scoop.

Don’t think we are out of it, but also do think we are behind for Gilbert. Seems to find any reason possible not to visit UGA. Reminds me of Haselwood in that regard.

There seems to be a lot of conjecture about just how much Gilbert has been in Athens. Those who are under the impression he has made multiple quiet visits to campus are certain he’s a Dawg whereas those like Rusty who believe the last time he was here was once in June believe UGA trails Bama and Tennessee. Weird for a high profile in state recruit to have this much conjecture about where he has or has not been

There's more going on here than can be shared publicly... A whole lot of overreaction right now.

When an uncommitted, in state player wants to keep his UGA visits secret while not caring who knows how often he visits others, it tells you a lot.

I know the Rivals guys still think he will be a Dawg, but everyone thought the same about Haselwood last year.

Follow the visits. Rarely wrong.

But that’s what everyone is doing and if he’s been in Athens as suggested then it’s a good indicator for UGA. Publicity of the visit means little, his visits to Knoxville are usually with Marietta teammates who are committed there so of course it’s going to be noticed and publicized

Who says he hasn't been visiting?

With the new recruiting calendar and expanded dead periods, where prospects go for the events like every major school hosted last weekend speaks volumes.

The fact that Gilbert visited multiple other schools but skipped coming to UGA says a lot about where he is in the process.

By no means am I saying that we won't land him, but I think it would be foolish to not recognize that we have a lot of work to do.

Rusty is claiming he's only been back to Athens once since G-day. I know for a fact this is wrong... just the degree to which he's wrong is up for debate. 2 trips I know happened. Another depends on whether you think multiple people on several boards are lying about a different date where he was spotted with Todd Hartley at lunch.

We haven't done well with the "secret" visit guys recently. Jadon Haselwood, Trey Sanders, Myles Murphy. Just a few guys who took several "secret" visits.

Bottom line is there is a reason why these kids don't want to be seen on campus, and especially when it is an in state guy, it tells you a lot.

I think we feel good about Darnell Washington. Would be thrilled with Theo Johnson as the number two, though I imagine we land on someone like Cam Large. Think Gilbert ends up at Tenn or Bama.

Darnell Washington

Frankly, for what we want out of a TE, he's probably the better choice so long as we can lock that in sooner and not have to wait out the entire season. He's physically more suited to handle the blocking needs, he's got a monster catch radius and is an absolute mismatch as a possession receiver or redzone threat.

You can read into SoFL's comments from this afternoon what you want, but I think he's spot on with questioning the advice that Gilbert is getting. He is treating his recruitment like he is and deserves to be a wide receiver...

Personally, I see no reason to take Cam Large... I may be in the minority, but he just doesn't jump out and scream "I'm going to take someone's spot"... If we just need a big bodied blocker, Fitzpatrick would seem to be an obvious choice for now, with Goede maybe a good fit after he recovers from his surgery. I'd look to 2021 to try and add another "primary blocking TE" if it were me... But ultimately, the staff knows what they want/need better than any of us.

I agree fully in regards to Cam Large. He seems like Brett Seither 2.0. Basically, a good player, but not good enough to take the spot from another potential impact guy at a different position.

Will say that if we miss on Gilbert, it gives rise to a pretty damning narrative for our in state recruiting. I don’t think “staying home first” is as important as many do, but if we miss on the two best players in the state at our two biggest positions of need, it is a very shitty look.
