Other coaches aren’t faultless. For instance, Dell McGee had a really bad cycle last year, like step on a banana peel bad. BUT, he’s signed elite guys before, and appears to be right back on track this year.
The Haselwood thing was also a disaster, and had we whiffed on Pickens at the end, I’d be very skeptical of Hankton right now.
Fib hit on a big part of the cause of frustration. Elite DL units win championships. We’ve been recruiting decently there, but no where close to the level of Bama and Clemson who continue to cherrypick the best of the best at the position every year. It is hard for me to see the path to a national title without us fielding a unit like that.
It is a huge turnaround job. Offensive line was arguably a bigger turnaround, and we went out, paid a premium for the right guy, and a huge weakness has become a strength. I’m sure Scott is a nice guy, but he is not the architect of that type of turnaround now, and there is no guarantee that he will develop into one, and if he does, no guarantee that it happens anytime soon.

He has signed some in the past. He hasn't signed anybody yet this year, though, so I'm not sure how he is back on track. I think he will, and I like Dell McGee.

I do agree with both of you, that we need to pick it up along the DLine, but I think my push back was how adamant you have been.

Gotta stop for the night. If you answer I'll take a look in the morning.

It’s his schtick. He talks shite about UGA on tRant and the recruiting board. Not just about recruiting the DL. He just harps on the DL here and is over the top with it. While most of us recognize there are some issues and agree with it his schtick is to go over the top with it. If he was somewhat positive about other aspects of UGA I would be more inclined to believe it wasn’t.

Is it? 2017 UGA didn't have that and was absolutely capable of winning the national championship.

I’d argue that the 2017 DLine with a very underrated Atkins, a healthy and engaged Trent Thompson, Tyler Clark and several of our current upperclassmen chipping in as backups was as good a group as we have had in a long time.
Above all, Roquan Smith was so good as a middle linebacker/field general that he elevated our entire defense. I’m hoping that our stellar recruiting at all LB positions will lead to some guys having similar impact, but Roquan was for my money the best defender to ever wear Red and Black, so I’m not going to expect any of our current guys to produce at that level. Truly an example of a “generational” guy.

Recruits weren’t positive of Holyfield was coming back. We signed a top 10-15 back. They all would be behind Swift, Herrien, Cook, and Zeus.
Not an easy thing to recruit over.

In other news Raym committed to OU as unfortunately was expected over the last week or so.

Certainly a challenge. I do think he mishandled the Emery/Sanders situation (telling both they were THE top target).
But, like I said, he had put together a pretty loaded room beforehand, and also walked into a good situation in 2016. Not all position groups are equally as challenging, and I’m under no illusions that recruiting running backs at UGA is as challenging as DL or WR.
It’s not an exact science. And I have enough self awareness to admit that I’m prone to hyperbole, so it’s fine if you feel I’m being over the top.
The worst coach on a very good staff is probably still a pretty good coach. Mainly just don’t want to see us waste this window of opportunity to win a title, and a few positions, namely DL, OL, and QB seem to be of disproportionate importance towards that end.

With Raym to OU, are we still taking 5 ol? If not, I would like to see us flip Leonard manual

I thought you were banned. What was in your jerk off thread the other day? I clicked and it was whacked.

I think we will take Sedrick Van Pran (who I like a lot more than Raym) and use the extra spot as a “best available”.
Manuel is impressive, but the scuttle is that he is juco bound.

Agree with all of that. No need to force an extra OL with our depth.

I was looking for support and the mods whacked my thread, damn shame

If we are picking top player from Florida I would prefer to flip, its Avantea Williams.

Our 2018 was also capable of that achievement. Very little dropoff from 2017.

Missing on Bresee and Murphy
Bresee = overhyped and overrated. Great White Hope syndrome. Should have gotten Capehart or Dexter.
So far, we aren't playing with the big boys as far as getting the top tier of DLs like Clemson or 'Bama.

Wow. If true I can see Gruven Dawg starting another "Swamp Burns" thread next off season.

Bresee just dominated at the Opening.
