When you aren’t that good you have to do the little things well (defense, free throws, take care of the ball, etc).

We aren’t that good and don’t do the little things. It’s a bad formula

We are charmin soft, can’t shoot, and seem to have an overall very low basketball iq on the team.

This is pretty deflating to watch. I always hope one day these guys will flip the switch but then I’ll watch a game and watch us be unable to score for 6 minutes or turn it over 4 straight possessions.

We are such a sloppy team. Crean is improving the talent level over the Fox years, but we are objectively a more poorly coached team. He's either not emphasizing a lot of the "little" details, or simply isn't able to get them to execute. I was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt for a bit, but I really don't even see improvement in these areas. Sloppy or ill advised/unnecessary passes. Not finishing drives to the basket. Poor spacing/support on both sides of the ball.

Not sure what the fix is, but just going to the coaching carousel is not enough, because we simply aren't that attractive of a destination. Hopefully Josh Brooks has a vision though.

Agreed. No players seem to develop either. KD Johnson has been nullified as a factor after a single game.

The shitty part is that some people will try to use this as justification that we were wrong to move on from Fox, but he was given a really long leash and just unable to build anything resembling a consistent competitive roster. He never recruited well from day one. He wasn't the answer, but it's pretty clear that Crean doesn't appear to have the goods either.

I thought Fox was a good coach - just never had any talent. His teams were always much better at the end of the season but losses to directional schools in November and December would kill any hope for a tourney bid.

He never, ever could draw up an inbound play. We lost to atm one year with a healthy lead in the final minute because we tried running the same inbound play every time and we kept turning it over
He was awful at breaking the press
His offenses were plodding and inefficient. Your defense is going to look good by having a low scoring game when you run the shot clock down every trip then jack up a contested shot. The main cog of his offensive system was having the center receive the ball at the top of the 3 point arc. Fox was an awful coach and he's having the exact same issues at cal.

Now Jim harrick, THAT guy could coach his arse off.

I would love to get Marshall, but he is probably off limits for awhile given what just happened with him.

I want one of Tony Bennett's assistants who can bring that UVA style to Athens. Actually, I'd love to see us write Bennett himself a blank check but that's unrealistic.

His system may not always be pretty, but it wins a lot of games.

To say Fox was an awful coach is so dumb btw. He was a bad recruiter and didn't play the AAU game, but his teams played hard and he succeeded in Athens more so than any one else has in almost 20 years.

Is he a great coach? No, but he is not awful and that sort of hyperbolic shite is annoying to read.

IDK... at this point, you gotta take a gamble with a coach with some baggage. I’d welcome Marshall, Pitino, or Sampson. Sampson makes 2.7 million... has recruiting violations, but would bring instant results. Marshall would probably come in a heartbeat if it weren’t for the Social Justice Warriors in Athens. Pitino... old... but could be Herrick Esque in a few short years.
