Haselwood
Yeah... Fortunately, it *looks* like we'll get his last official prior to early signing day. I think/hope that Haselwood looks and sees just how bad the defenses are in the BigXII and says "I need to keep getting better, not pad my stats"... but no telling. On the upside, we've been throwing the ball a lot more lately, and efficiently.

The article was oddly specific about 1 or both of Holyfield and Herrien potentially moving on
I would be surprised if Herrien is still on the team next year. In additional to Holyfield and Swift - Cook will likely get a little more action, White will be in the mix (hopefully), McIntosh and potentially Cain will be there as well...Herrien could be looking at splitting carries with Prather Hudson in mop up duty.
He's a decent running back, but there are a finite number of carries and some other more talented mouths to feed.

Don't know the exact names to be watching as of right now, but Rusty Mansell said that Georgia will have 90% or more of its class signed on the first day of early signing.
That's a really good sign of what may be coming.

One big advantage that gives me hope to get Haselwood is his closeness to his family.
In the DN article about his family:

Those people clearly matter to him. They always have. Especially his mother. Especially his 4-year-old younger brother Peyton Baker. Haselwood will look to be a constant presence in his life. When it comes down to it, I think those could be the single biggest reasons behind his choice. Especially with this uncertainty. If no clear-cut decision emerges over the next few weeks, I can see him making the decision that simply has the fewest “cons” in the long run.
If he moves away to Auburn, FSU, Miami, Oklahoma or even to a new contender in Tennessee, it looks like it will be hard to separate himself from those folks. Do all of those folks move with him to his next destination? That doesn’t seem likely

We need Cook to have his mail forwarded to the weight room, this offseason.
Maybe bringing in only 1 RB in McIntosh this year is a good thing, given our depth. Go for 2 next year.

Rumor is Holyfield is leaning towards declaring for the draft. Also, Herrien is probably transferring. All of this information coming from Rusty Mansell and other connected insiders.
With that said, Zamir may never be an SEC back after tearing both knees. That leaves Swift, Cook and McIntosh. Not exactly comfortable depth. If Cain wants to jump on board, you take him.

Originally, didn't think he'd grade out high enough, he wasn't even on most draft boards, lately though, he's been skyrocketing upwards...
From today, dunno how reputable draftwire is, but had him as the 5th ranked RB. If so then that's probably enough to grade out round 3 or better... Which is a good barometer for RBs.
quote:
1. David Montgomery | Iowa State
2. Rodney Anderson | Oklahoma
3. Damien Harris | Alabama
4. Karan Higdon | Michigan
5. Elijah Holyfield | Georgia
6. Myles Gaskin | Washington
7. Justice Hill | Oklahoma State
8. Darrell Henderson | Memphis
9. Miles Sanders | Penn State
10. Benny Snell, Jr. | Kentucky
Dunno how accurate the above is... Seems odd to see Snell so low, but getting stuffed against their best competition this year probably didn't help.
If we do lose Holyfield and Herrien this off season, then I'd agree, 2 is a must. You can pretty much count on Swift gone after 19 as well, so it's a revolving door at this point. Until you know what Zamir can be post injuries, you have to plan for the worst.

I think Holyfield ends up being drafted in the top 3 of RB's. I have a feeling he puts on a show at the combine

Draftwire is a pretty good source. They specialize in draft prospects and have NFL credentials. I don’t know if Holyfield is a top 5 back but this is a historically bad RB draft class. There are a handful of sophomores who’d go first of the board if they could declare.
If I’m a RB, I get to the NFL ASAP, and try to get 4 years in for the lifelong pension. A bonus is the 2nd contract

That rb class leaves alot to be desired when it comes to top high end talent and Heismen hopefuls.
I believe Holyfield leaves on that basis alone, and Swift is destined to declare early next season.

If Holyfield is entering the draft, why would Herrien need to transfer? That would open up a lot more carries.

I assume if Holyfield leaves, it will be Swift and Cook with the bulk of the caries followed by Zeus, unless Zeus is really a god out there in which case he might overtake Cook. I'm guessing Herrien will still be #4 on the depth chart and he probably thinks he's a solid #2 at least. He could be tempted to test that theory somewhere else.

There aren't many teams able to get two RBs highly drafted in the same class. Cain's comments show that he realizes RB's at UGA have a double chance of hitting the jackpot.
Even Tim Tebow admits that UGA is RBU. Go Dawgs.

Not sure, it’s just what the 247 guys are reporting. Herrien is a nice RB, but he isn’t going to get 10-15 carries a game in Athens.

The bolded area is key to me. He probably won't play in the NFL, so for his last year he might want to go somewhere else so he can possibly get 15-20 carries a game. Why not? he has played for a National Championship, won a SEC title....now go and indulge yourself and have some fun. That's exactly what I would do.

And Herrien isn’t a bad back. He would rival some other teams best starter. Over 5 yards a carry is nothing to sneeze at and he’s looked good this year. He’s the perfect third or 4th spell guy but he would never be the “man” here. You can tell coach Smart loves putting him in because he still gets prime carries in some situations I would rather have my stud in for but that’s a trust thing that he knows Herrien is a capable back. Would hate to lose him.

Kirby in home with Clay Webb tonight.

Pittman I knew was going in home. Didn’t think Kirby was traveling this week.

Doing work. If we land Webb that would obviously be huge.
