Whenever "sources" say that kids were promised a starting spot, i translate this to "you'll have the opportunity to compete for a starting spot day 1".
Based on the way Kirby talks about competition and how nobody owns a starting position, I find that to be 100% accurate. And candidly I'd be shocked if any coach DIDN'T tell them that. Furthermore, any kid that believes they'll be a starter as a freshman is extremely stupid, entitled, or both, and chances are they won't see the field no matter their talent level due to the lack of work ethic that traditionally follows those two traits combined.
Every fanbase has their rumor mongers...ours included...so i take all of it with a grain of salt.

It's like when jrjr heard directly from Andy Boykin's teammates that he doesn't take coaching very well. Each fanbase has some idiots, who make stuff up. Unfortunately we have a couple as well.
But I will take that as a very encouraging sign that Bama fans are worried about us getting Dean.

This is patently false. I heard it straight from his dad's mouth. He said after they went to the spring game that they felt he was the best qb of the 3 and could start day one though. This was last fall after he had already committed.

I haven't been following recruiting in the off season like I have in prior years. Got caught up in QAnon right after NSD so I barely learned the cast of characters for '19.
