With Demery we now have 3 OL commits for 2017 averaging 6'5" 325lbs. Pittman bringing the beef back to the line.

Pittman's my favorite of the new coaches. Dude gets it that the line is where you win the games.

Demery, Thomas (hopefully, looks good), and Netori in one class is outstanding. Can't remember ever being so excited about our OL recruits. That is the ONE area on the football field that we have constantly struggled the last 15 years to excel in. I can't even imagine how much easier things are going to be for us IF/when we get excellent/elite OL play.

I've said it a thousand times on here, but it bears repeating: Behind a solid 4-5* OL, a 3-4* QB/RB can look like a worldbeater, but behind a 3-4* OL, the 4-5* QB/RB will almost always be fighting for his life.

You'll occasionally have a TGII or Chubb, whose superior athleticism can often overcome OL failings, but they're the exception which prove the rule.

Beating out Bama for Demery is as sweet as seeing Johnson flip from Bama to the emerging Top Dawg, UGA. An elite offense is being built.

So what does that put us up to? The number 4 class?

Yep. LINK

And doing it with fewer commits than any of the other top 5 current classes.

1) OSU - Total: 254.68 - Avg 94.53 (13 commits)
2) Bama - Total: 246.78 - Avg 92.35 (14 commits)
3) Oklahoma - Total 224.49 - Avg 89.48 (15 commits)
4) UGA - Total 207.80 - Avg 92.17 (11 commits)
5) Michigan - Total 204.71 - Avg 88.63 (14 commits)

The rest of the top 25 only has 4 other teams that are averaging out at 90/commit (Clemson - 8, FSU, 10, ND - 11, and UNC - 18).

Generally early on, the avg. per commit is a good number to track, since ultimately you want quality over quantity (assuming you're not leaving too many schollys on the shelf when it's all said and done, which I don't expect under Smart).

Interesting that of our current commits, none are 5*. LeCounte is close (about 5 spots outside on 247 composite) with Fromm not far behind. Also interesting that 247 seems to not like William Poole at all... his composite ranking comes in at 97, but 247 has him ranked at 247 (not a typo)... which is shocking considering what I've seen of his footage and some of the guys they rate more highly.

At least as of right now, we're really not in great position for a lot of the current 5* crop either. I listed the ones that have been associated much with UGA in the past few months that I could recall:

Dylan Moses (probably not, but he wants to visit?), Cam Akers (good shot), Isaiah Wilson just came on campus (long shot), Jacoby Stevens (great shot), Stanford Samuels (in the mix but think he'll end up at FSU when all is said and done), Robert Beal (in the mix), D'Andre Swift (hearing good things with the package deal there and Webb). 7/32

Of those, have a great shot at landing 2 (Stevens & Swift), and decent chances with a few others, so maybe get 3-4 in the class... which would be a strong pull. I just can't recall if it was a similar story around this time last year. Toward NSD, it seemed like we were in the discussion around more 5*, but I think that may just be a result of more of those guys waiting to pull the trigger and announce publicly or potential flips.

I don't put too much weight into the stars in general as I don't see a huge difference between a 98.3 and a 98.5 rating (difference between a 4/5* right now), which is all subjective anyways. I trust Smart & Co's evaluation ability. I do wonder a bit if Xavier Jenkins or Landers might have been a bit of a reach to take the commitment as early as we did, but Coley seems to know what he's doing, so I'm not gonna second guess too much until he gives us a reason to do so.

I think the 247 composite is a good way to look at rankings since it averages everyone. 247 by itself, rivals, espn, scout...sometimes you'll have people all over the map. But the composite is good. So looking at the composite, here's a rundown of the top 100. Some of this is PURE GUESSING on my part and not based on any facts or logic. Strictly guesswork.

16- cam akers- probably a looong shot, but not impossible
18- isaiah wilson- extremely long shot but ya never know
23- jacoby- likely to UGA
29- beal- we're heavily in the mix, if not the favorite
31- swift- we're definitely in it. Would be a massive get
35- gibbs- he likes us but family will sway him to UT most likely
37- lecounte- currently committed
41- fromm- committed
48- andrew thomas- probably UGA bound. looking god
55- jaymest williams- we're strong contenders
72- mcbride - almost surely UGA
75- nico collins- will be tough to pull from AL but maybe have a chance
91- malike herring- we're strongly in the mix
93- AJ terrell- strongly in the mix
96- aubrey solomon- strongly in the mix
97- poole- committed

we're already hovering around a top 5 class with only 11 commits which is awesome. Even more awesome is we're heavily in the mix for 8-10 more top 100 guys. This could go down as one of the 2 or 3 best classes we've ever had.

Agreed, that's what I was working from. Was strictly looking at composite 5* recruits. I did scroll down a bit further to look at what you have here as well, but beyond LeCounte and Fromm, I don't see anyone else currently committed to us in the top 100 getting a bump to a 5th star. That was all I was going on. Would agree Gibbs has a good shot at getting his 5th star (probably will).

Also on your breakdown, would largely agree. I think we have a better shot with Cam Akers than implied. I'm uncertain on Beal, but that's 2 of you guys that feel good, so will take it. I'm actually feeling pretty good about Gibbs. Will be even better if UT chokes away a few games this season to muddy the coaching waters there. I won't feel good about McBride until he gets on campus just because I know how coveted he is. Do want and glad he's tight with Fromm. Nico... want to be optimistic but I'm with you going to be a tough pull.

From what I've read he LOVES us, it almost seems like a demetris situation where his family is going to win out against his own desires.

He's tight with nigel warrior who's up there now, and I think he has family ties to UT as well. Basically everything is tryign to push him to UT other than his own brain which wants to be in Athens. I'm hoping that with 8 months til NSD and all these hometown boys in his ear we can sway him, but I won't count on it.

I'd say Malik Herring is on level with mcbride as being almost assuredly a dawg. May have moved Aubrey Solomon into that status as well
