I think its going to be very hard keeping Walter Grant off the field, the guy is simply a physical specimen. McBride and Hunter may have higher grades but Grant has the most upside IMO. He's versatile like Floyd was and I think he will play OLB, ILB and with his hand in the dirt like Leonard. It would not surprise me 3 yrs. down the road Grant has the highest NFL grade among this class, the young man is just a freak.

From what I've seen and heard, I fully agree here. He's got a *ton* of potential. I can't wait to see what our coaches have planned for him as he is going to need to cross train at DL and LB to reach his full potential.

Dislike Chip Towers for how he messed up the cochrane hire. Sabotaging the team you cover is no bueno.

How did he mess up the Cochran hire? Didn't hear this story. My understanding was financially it would have been a mistake for him to leave (between salary and retirement benefits).

Yeah I dont' think chip did anything.

We wanted cochran bad, and I'm sure he had legit interest, but I recall somethign about the state of AL's vesting into retirment and SC was like 2 years away from being all in making it pointless for him to leave the state for a few years. I could have some of that wrong though.

The story was leaked and Alabama offered a massive pay raise before we could get our deal done.

If you wanna hate the AJC, that's fine. But thus far, Sentell has been a guy that IMO seems to play it pretty open and honest. When guys seem to be playing the game, he's said as much, when he feels that there is legitimate interest or chance that we land a guy, he's done the same. Whether it's what we want to hear or not. Aubrey Solomon has been the pendulum swinging in every direction so hard to fault him for feeling confidence at one point and then less so later.

He's been a good addition to Dawgnation's coverage.

Not exactly how that went to my knowledge. It's possible that he may have put it out there, but to think that Alabama had no idea that we were reaching out to him and/or that they wouldn't have offered more money is ridiculous. He was set to make $420k in 2016 already, and instead was bumped to $525k. Certainly a big increase (25%), but he would have been remiss to not give them the chance to begin with. Couple that with the retirement benefits angle, and there's next to no chance he was going.

In case you care, this guy did a pretty good breakdown of what it would mean for Cochran to stay there until 2017: LINK

Short answer is the retirement piece alone would have been worth - ~$80k annually in retirement but it would not start until he turns 60 (assumption is that he's roughly about 37 now as he graduated LSU in 2001). The author seems to think that given his current earning potential, it likely wouldn't have been a huge factor, but to think that it played no part is underplaying it a bit as well.

Alright fellers.....Signing Day is under 5 days away. We've got a number of question marks, a number of names that have been thrown out there, and only a small number of spots. That said, let's look at the possible commits/decommits/flips.

Current commits that are possible flips
Devonte Wyatt

Possible flips from other schools
Jamyest Williams

Targets/potential commits
Aubrey Solomon

Markaviest Bryant

Nico Collins

Leonard Warner

Elijah Blades

Ameer Speed

Latavius Brini

Tedarrell Slaton

Eric Stokes

Aaron Sterling

With what I'd say is five spots left (with Wyatt being uncertain) I still think we land Wyatt, Bryant, Collins, Speed and Williams...Obviously a long shot, but if Solomon has been playing the game and is a Dawg, I think we find a way to make room for him. Thoughts?

I'm in on keeping Wyatt and signing Collins, Big Murch, Speed, and we flip Williams. I think we miss on Soloman and Bryant.

I wasn't just kidding because you were defending him.

My prediction:

Keep Wyatt, Collins, Bryant, Speed, Solomon.

I think JW sticks with USCe

I'm with Sandwich and his picks. Which would be a stellar haul.

At this point Solomon would be like hitting a hole in one from the tips in the wind with a shitty Top Flite and loaners.

Well...maybe not that bad....

We get Bryant unless Auburn makes an offer he won't refuse. We would not have turned Warner away so early if the staff didn't feel good about Bryant.

Change out Williams for Speed and that's my prediction.

Bryant seems like the kind of guy whose number gets called by the Auburn bagman, in the end. I have no insight, just a gut feeling that I hope is wrong.

No worries! At first I thought that might have been it, but then I convinced myself was something else. Fine by me either way... he passes the beer test IMO. That's more than I can say about the digital persona of quite a few posters here...

While we're at it, I'll go:

Keep Wyatt
Add: JW, Collins, Speed
If we take a 4th, I feel like it's going to be the Juco DT because I think Bryant and Solomon are gone, but would be happy to be wrong on either.

Speed seems like the David Marshall of this years class. A criminally underrated guy that may make an immediate impact. A CB with a strong safety's frame.
