"Nah... I won't get raped. I'm too big to get raped."
Jeez, when recruits are on your campus, they're envisioning catching pick sixes against you and having to worry/think about rape, things have gone horribly wrong for your program.

It's a '16 guy but Georgia adds mammoth lineman as preferred walk-on....

quote:

Georgia appears to still be pecking away at the 2016 class as it added a preferred walk-on in Appling County offensive lineman Allen Williams on Monday. The 6-foot-6, 335-pound lineman agreed to take a preferred walk-on offer at UGA on Monday after being offered the opportunity on Sunday.

If you can get him as a non-scholarshipped player, nothing wrong with getting some more competition and depth at the OT position. Good size/length. Hutchinson CC is one of the better Juco programs out there as well (during the RMD on the LSU board, I was considering and believe I took several of them to my "fantasy" roster). With that kind of size, seems like he'd have had at least one offer if the grades weren't an issue. Possibly just an under the radar guy that didn't get rated? Highlight vid here. (Like the hustle around the 1:54 mark... knock one dude over, get to second level and get the next body).
There's a lot of him physically bringing smaller kids down to the ground and not a lot of pass protection footage, but Pittman might be able to do some good work with him with a redshirt year. 6'6" 300+ dudes don't grow on trees, so if it doesn't cost us a scholly spot, seems like a win to me.

I see you Kirby... playing the long game here...

has a 3.6 grade-point average and should qualify for the Hope Scholarship

Do like...
quote:

I guess we will see what grants and stuff he can get when he goes up on that visit.

Even better... play the game and maximize opportunities to take instate kids.
quote:

Williams also has a younger brother. Luke Williams is only three inches shorter than his younger brother and already weighs 302 pounds. He is just a freshman in high school.

“He has a brother right behind him who is going to be bigger,” Williams said. “He’s a football player, too.”

Yassssss... Get the brother on campus, let Pittman do work, and see how the younger brother develops. That is maximizing the value out of a PWO spot.

PS: How big is this dude? I'll tend to err on the small size and say 6'6", but the article linked is claiming "6-foot-8, 340-pounder, size 17 shoes"... damn.

Did CMR even try to do this?I mean its the ONE recruiting loophole that we
have over the other big 6 schools and we never seemed to take advantage of it.

Granted not a ton of FB players out there that qualify for Hope but well worth risk if
we find a few now and then.

For some reason, I thought that even if they were just on Hope that they counted towards our 85 limit.

Don't think so.I remember when our baseball went to the CWS and other
SEC schools use to bitch about how the Hope gave us a big.advantage.
Which obviously hasn't been the case the last few years.

I think it's a football only rule but I could be confusing it with using an athletic scholarship in another sport.

Hope only pays $4000 that leaves a lot with tuition, housing, meals and books.

Interesting. I hadn't heard the new limits on it, just that they were changing criteria and max value. How much is instate tuition now? I think when I graduated it was like 1800/semester... and that was still in the last decade.

I mean, I know you're not going to get elite guys to take no scholarship, but offering PWOs to guys like this that have potential and are planning on going to a Juco/CC, seems like something we should be looking to take advantage of when possible for sure.

In state tuition, as of a few years ago, ran between 5-7k per year.

And Richt did award PFWO scholarships to guys. A few every season, mostly to linemen. Some to special teams/roster filler types. It's pretty standard procedure.

Per the Hope website. The per SEMESTER payment for a maximun 15 hours enrolled is $3,495.00.
So you're looking at around $7,000.00 per year and if a potential FB player qualifies for Pell thats
another 4K to 5k per year.
