IYO..how should we have handled this that would show great leadership? Fact is our backfield is too crowded (in a great way!) and we didn't need another RB this class. We had to drop someone, adn there simply isn't a nice diplomatic way to do that.

We tried. We put the word out that it was an issue of early enrollee numbers, he could enroll in June, blah blah. That turned out to be false, but we at least TRIED to put a nice happy spin on the situation.

Once again, how should we have handled it? Aside from simply taking the kid anyway even though we dont' want him anymore (which would be an utter failure on the part of our coaches), there really isn't a nice easy way to go about this. And unlike when bama processes people and kicks them to the curb, we at least had the peace of mind that this highly ranked kid was going to stay and play for the home state and he'd be just fine, it's not like we took his LOI then pulled his scholly the next year.

To handle it, it needed to come directly from the man making the decision. It's good business frankly...

So you'd be more ok with this whole deal if Kirby came out publicly and said "with 2 RBs returning we only need 1 this cycle instead of 2 so we're going to pull the offer from one of our commits"?

He doesn't need to come out and say that publicly at all. He just should have been the one that broke the news to Carter and family. Having one of the assistants, even if it is the assistant that Carter is closest to, is slimy IMO.

Boy Chip Towers aimed to stir the pot didn't he and now look at everyone, bitching and moaning.
Fact is this comes off to me as sour grapes on the Carter family for UGA basically saying "no thanks" and chip getting back at Kirby for being an arse to the media. Why was it necessary to report any of this? I don't give a frick if Chubb had to tell him, wouldn't have changed the situation, nor the outcome.
All this is is negative spin by chip towers and an embarrassed Carter family. Stop buying into this bullshite.

Ok I'm on board with that, I agree that would be "right". But it still wouldn't change that UGA decided to pull his offer and we wanted to move in another direction. There's only so many ways to dress up that situation, it was gonna be a bit slimy regardless.
But again, I take solace in knowing TC is going to be just fine and go play for Texas and be in the fold quickly.

Doesn't matter. We have a morally bankrupt coach who hates traditional American family values and will never win more than 7 games per year. We should do whatever it takes to bring Richt back from Miami.

You don't get what we're saying. Despite the reason, if you have to deliver bad news to somebody do it yourself and explain your position in a professional manner. Don't have your subordinate do it...it IS good business.
Sure it sucks to have to deliver bad news but if you're in charge that comes with the territory.
Even if it isn't a scholly issue and is a decision based solely on the number of running backs he wants to have on the roster, Smart still should've handled this directly with the family given the amount of loyalty that Carter has shown throughout this process.

I suspect that it grew from a rumor a 5* was going to flip to us. Jacoby was a 5* that we felt we were in the mix for, and with Miles leaving people probably thought he might be the flip.

I've seen it pop up on 247 and BI. Jacoby and Jamyest both have popped up. It all sounds like total speculation and guesswork, you know typical recruiting board talk

Idk why anyone thinks jamyest is in play, he has been adamant for months that he's 100% to USC.
