This makes sense. When I said Hayes was not a take, I meant only in a situation where one of the 5* guys had privately committed to the staff. At this point I'm happy to see anybody that projects as an SEC tackle as part of the 17 class

It would have to be a public commitment imo. Prospects privately commit to multiple staffs all the time. Enough that you couldn't trust it in that situation imo.

Agreed. My impression was that Hayes was not a take if we thought we were landing one of Wilson or Leatherwood. Not an expert on the total number we can take this year, so please correct if I'm wrong

Rusty mentioned today that we would take 6 OL (if Wilson wanted to come), but that 4 is likely a static number at WR (meaning if Nico Collins wanted to come, and we wanted to take him, we'd have to cut ties with one of our committed WRs).

Very interesting. I like all the receivers we have in the class so far, but it's hard to argue with the need for bodies on the OL. It's crazy to think that we stand to have our best OL class in recent history and that it still isn't enough to fix the problem.

I think the foundation is there when you combine what we're bringing in with what we already have. This off-season is HUGE for Ben Cleveland. If he can master his technique and footwork this off-season then he's a lock to start at guard, which will open up some options for us at Tackle. Gaillard will likely move to Center (Barnes will be in contention for this spot, too), leaving Kindley/Sims/Netori fighting it out for the other guard spot. Wynn can move to LT/RT and hopefully Hayes will lock down the other spot. There is also the chance that the light comes on for a guy like Pat Allen or Kendall Baker at RT. It's not as bad as it seems, we have a couple guys who can play, but we're young and we need to see some solid development this off-season. Landing a guy who can play LT/RT from his first day on campus is a big win, though.

Solid write up. My view on it at the most basic level is that we have a chance to improve from this season if the guys you mentioned can develop as the should. I'll confess that I haven't seen much footage on Hayes and don't have any firsthand opinion on what he brings to the table other than what I have read. My disappointment is that I feel like reeling in one of the "can't miss" left tackle prospects could have rapidly sped up our OL development and helped position us as an SEC east contender next season

And everyone, myself included, wants the "can't miss" LT prospect. The problem is that there are maybe 2-3 of those in each class and all 128 FCS teams want them. Outside of the southeast, we're not a team that packs a lot of punch in recruiting; then again, very few schools can. Bama, Ohio St, Michigan, USC (though less so recently), FSU are really about it. Most every school has it's recruiting region and can expect to pull 2 to 4 guys outside of that area each year. We recruit Georgia, Florida, and the Carolinas well and it's where the bulk of our guys are going to come from. The last real can't miss OT prospect out of this state was Mitch Hyatt and he was always Clemson-bound. Guys like Edoga and Price were good prospects but we're far from true elite LT's. Unfortunately for us, Bama is gobbling up almost every elite tackle prospect like it's a damn game of Hungy Hungry Hippos.

Well put. The ugly truth is that so long as Saban draws a paycheck in Tuscaloosa, we're likely never going to be able to stand toe-to-toe with them and trade blows on OL recruiting.

You think Hayes is a plug and play kind of guy? Everything I've read (not doubting you, just stating what I've seen) is that he's pretty raw, specifically in pass protection. Thankfully he'll be here next month, just sounds like he could take some time, as well.

Sidenote, one guy we haven't talked about in awhile is Aaron Sterling. Undersized? Sure. Productive? Definitely. Is he a take? Maybe him and Rosheem Collins are both on the board and one or the other gets a spot?

Hayes is going to have to play.

Sterling has academic issues

I don't see us offering Sterling at this point unless something goes terribly wrong in our DL recruiting between now and NSD.

Let me preface this post with the fact that I work nights and I'm bored...

With that said I was looking at my twitter and saw this

So I click on 1 like to see who liked it, and it was none other than Monty Rice himself.

Sounds like he might be having second thoughts

So apparently Florida's DC Geoff Collins will be named Temples head coach. What do we think the chances are that Kirby and staff try to lure some of their recruits away?

They have a corner that we recently offered and are pursuing. Not really sure about anyone else.

I don't really do twitter...did rice "like" the guy saying it's not over, or Malik's original post saying to show him some love?

It's probably best to not follow twitter. Everything is so horribly overanalyzed now.
