how do you know that?

Just going by the overall performance of the defense under Grantham.

are you using the guy that was let go from the staff in 2009?

Honestly I do think Martinez was a pretty good secondary coach.

Grantham isn't going to be his position coach. Either compare grantham to van gorder regarding the development of Davis and Jennings or admit we have no idea who will be developing him and how good/bad they will be at developing DBs.

If you think Martinez was a pretty good secondary coach you need to go back and watch the Tennessee game where Crompton looked like Peyton Manning and Joe Montana rolled into one person. If you watch that film you won't even find a defensive back within 10 yds of a receiver.

Didn't someone say that Ross was a small-town kid and didn't want all the recruiting attention? That could have something to do with his lack of rating. His film is pretty good and he is pretty explosive around the ball. He could use a redshirt and contribute down the road, with a full year or two of college.

Well of course we don't know who will be developing him, but I was refering to VanGorder and his staff versus Grantham and his staff.

I was talking about when Martinez was just a db coach and not dc.

Ross kid looks pretty good. Needs to get that shoulder tackle shite out of his system before he gets here. We have enough of that already.

That can be taught. Basically, what I see in that film is:

Really good athlete. Not the most explosive maybe but definitely a solid athlete.
Good size
Great ball skills
A nose for the ball
A propensity for violence. He ain't scared.

Good enough for me

I agree with all. I see the same things, too. But, we have way too many players (Well...they are all over college and pro football) that do not wrap up. can it be taught? certainly. But I am wondering if it is not being taught, or are the players just ignoring what they are being taught. Too many players going for that ESPN highlight hit, instead of good fundamental tackling. Makes for a lot of broken tackles and long breakaway runs. He does have all the other qualities you say, though, so maybe he can be taught to wrap up. I hope so.

Sean Williams was one of the best tacklers I've seen at safety. He was a product of Lak and grantham...

Yeah, I get what you're saying. I just think the Defensive coordinator may have been responsible for his success when he was a db coach. Just look at what happened when he was the Defensive coordinator and our pass defense was terrible.

I said that and it's true. His favorite things to do are hunt, fish. He loves baseball as well.

So I hate to open a can of worms but do we lose any defensive commits before NSD?

Crow would know best but I assume would would. Depends on who is recruiting them. Also depends on who we hire. Lot of questions to be answered.

Jake Rowe reporting most of our top targets are still solid so that's a good sign.

"I honestly didn't expect him staying much longer but didn't know it'd be this soon. Coaching changes are happening left and right it's a business." 5-star LB Christian Miller

"I like coach Grantham and all, and I hope he has a good time at Louisville, but im a Dawg. And thats not changing." Top247 DE commit Keyon Brown

Now if we get a positive quote from Carter soon I'll be happy. I know BMac was one of his primary recruiters though so that's good.

I think the recruit who will be affected the most will be Wesley Green since Grantham became his primary recruiter.
