Where Do We Go From Here?

For those of us that are past the melt, where do you see the team going from this point this season?
Last year after the Bama game the Auburn game allowed us to bounce back. Is USC our bounce back game? If we can find a way to beat them and Auburn we could have a 9 win season (10 with a bowl win) which is better than 99% of the Rant expected for us before the season. What bowl game would we want?

Where will this team go v. where I think it should go is ALWAYS different.
What should happen:
1. KA is on the bench with injury for at least 2 games, done, end of discussion.
2. Kyler and Jake both take 1st team reps
3. Sumlin picks the starter, frick all outside pressure
4. Sumlin calls all offensive plays going forward
5. Ditch the donkey abortion of a running game for this season. It's forced and is no workie.
6. Return to the HUNH on every goddamn body. Dare them to follow suit.
7. Make every effort, and burn every shirt if needed, to win the frick out.
What will happen, because for some fricked up reason, conspiracy, or otherwise, A&M coaches all make the same goddamn mistakes:
1. KA will play hurt well into every game going forward
2. Kyler will get the same amount of playing time, or none at all
3. We will stubbornly waste our season fruitlessly trying to establish the run
4. The offense will continue to struggle with identity and put up shitty performances
5. Spav stays and runs offense the same way
6. We lose a minimum of 2 of the next three games, just enough to get bowl eligible.
7. Lose first bowl game under Sumlin
8. We are mid-level west program for a minimum of the next 10 years
9. Recruiting goes back to pre-SEC levels and all returns to normal
10. I am sentenced to death by leathal injection on multiple counts of mass farm animal mutilation and post-mortum beastiality, followed by multiple acts of murder, canibalism, and public masturbating.

Oh, yeah. And both Kyler and Mack transfer to the sips.

Well that sounds pleasant.

Um, not to tell you your business but I am pretty sure you are still melting.
I will tell you what made me feel better- go lurk a corn husker forum.
At least at A&M we have some things going for us- conference affiliation, what I still think is a good DC hire, facilities, and we are pretty close to a point where Sumlin's buyout is affordable if the next two years don't pan out. They don't have squat going for them- their division is boring, their coach is in year 1 and its obvious he is over his head and was a cheap hire, and they are stuck in that position until its too late to save a once elite program.
It's all relative. I think just with Jake we can have a 8 win season if we want to just let the freshman dumpster fire burn out.

Kyler wins the QB competition this week and starts the rest of the year. He'll still float too many long passes but Vandy is the only one with enough defense to take advantage with picks, and their offense is more inept than ours. Aggies take 9-2 record to Baton Rouge. Fournette increases his Heisman lead. By a lot. At 9-3 we get a decent bowl game and win it, saving Spavital's job.

I think all this happens, except for Spav keeping his job. Sumlin is too smart not to recognize that he can do the exact same thing with the OC that he did with the DC position last year.
And I think we're already pot committed, so we'll give him the $ he needs to hire Wilson or Dana or (insert accomplished OC)

Who is we?
I see this from a large portion of our fan base and I'm not sure where y'all think that money is gonna come from. I know a few large donors and the ones that aren't already tapped out are not in the mood to give any more money until they see some results.

The athletic department and major donors
Are you saying he'll be forced to roll with Spav next year?

For one, Sumlin is gonna let anybody force him to do anything.
It may not be Spav, but I wouldn't just automatically assume that we have the money to pay 3 million a year for two coordinators on top of Sumlin's 5 with the results we are getting.

I think going cheap on OC is part of why we're in this mess, so I hope we don't get tight with money once the road gets tough.
Kevin Wilson one makes $1.2M right now, and would get a $1M buyout if he's fired.
Non-elite coordinators seem to be in the $750k-1M range. Spav makes $480k and McKinney makes $480k as our 2 past OCs.
I think the AD/donors can make it work where we can afford a legit OC. Otherwise it seems to be cutting off our nose to spite our face.

I think this Saturday will define the team going forward for the rest of the year. They win the game Saturday and they will head into Baton Rouge @ 9-2.
I think at that point we have a very good shot to win the game.
