Serious question, what made you decide on A&M for grad school? Good program? Are you originally from Tx and pay in state tuition? Just curious.

Top 20 program with a strong national reputation and good placement record. I was also offered a great funding package in the form of a fellowship. I am from Arkansas and billed out of state, but that is of course all paid through the fellowship.
On a personal level I obviously feel more at home here than I would in a few of the coastal programs I was admitted to. So that's pretty much the reasons.

Welcome! Do you plan on getting your Aggie Ring?

I don't know man what you think. I'm not a big ring wearer. Or would need lots of getting used to it time.

I've known a couple people who have gotten them for grad school, but I tend to think of it as signifying the undergrad experience. Plus you'd get some strange looks back home wearing that thing.

That's sort of my first thought as well.

I tend to think of it as an undergrad thing as well. It's also pretty expensive if you aren't going to be wearing it

Yeah that's pretty much where I am on it. Getting a PhD doesn't really work in classes either, so the year means less. It's also hard to predict when I will graduate as I could hang around depending on the job market.
I also sort of feel like, and correct me of I'm wrong, that being an Aggie really relates to having gotten an undergraduate education here. Otherwise I am a supporter of the university and will plan to give to the Association of Former Students and the 12th man Foundation. Even with that, and despite the time I spend here being longer than many undergrads, I will never quite have the same feeling that I do about Arkansas. So, when being honest about things, I come to the conclusion that the Aggie ring and the title of Aggie should be reserved for someone with that deep down warm fuzzy. Otherwise I am a staunch supporter of Texas A&M the university with much interest in success as a whole. This by default makes me happy for example that JFF won the Hesiman. I would also be happy for a MNC this year, as both really don't come at the expense of Arkansas. Other years that could be different, but my support for the University, what it represents, and the overall mission of higher education will never change.

Well put sir. Grad school just isn't the same as undergrad. Maybe it's because of age and professionalism but you just don't get that x factor that you do when you're constantly surrounded by all the new influences and acculturation.

This is a pretty accurate description of the grad mentality. Root for your grad school unless head to head with your alma mater.

Thanks. I think that's just how it is. Lots of folks don't seem to understand it, and I assume that is because they either did not go to grad school, went to the same place as undergrad, or to a place that is on a lower level sports wise.

Yeah, the people who adopt their grad school as their primary rooting interests usually went to a small undergrad, or a place out of state that they don't get to visit anymore.

Besides, the ring is only one way of being accepted.
ahem...

I hated rings until I got my Aggie Ring. It is awesome. You should get one.

Oh, I gots me a jizz jar. That just seemed like something any self respecting man should have around.

You would be the one to come in here and derail the string of agreeable opinions we had going.

What do the decals on your truck look like? Straight Arkysaw, or some Aggie stuff mixed in?

Well I drive a Mini Cooper. I have an Arkansas plate with an A&M chrome logo sticker.
