Aubrey Bloom with a pretty pointed article about our attendance. His closing paragraph is frightening
quote:

In 2003-2004, the year the Aggies didn't win a single conference game, they averaged 5,952 fans per game. That's 585 more than they did this season.

According to the NCAA's numbers, A&M's average attendance for the 2003-2004 year was 6,100. LINK

Aubrey's point is still well taken but I wonder how he arrived at that number.

Did we really just accept an invite to the CBI?

ETA: Does that mean we made a postseason tourney and BK is coming back?
The Rant does not yet possess an emoticon that would properly describe my feelings on the subject, so a laugh/cry face will have to suffice.

No, but it comes as no surprise that jorts is knighting for BK. Link?

just got around to reading this...

Brent Z:
quote:

Since Hyman addressed this (at least sort of) when he told me he would not do so (maybe he had a slip of the tongue, I don't know), I'll go ahead and chime in here again.

I gave Hyman every chance, and then some more chances, to dispute the report. He declined. His main angle was trying to figure out who my source was, and he worked hard on that front.

At the time I was having flashbacks to Mike McKenzie, and to a point Fran, trying to work me over to figure out who the source was on Fran's secret newsletter. I mean, McKenzie was BEGGING on that front.

At the same time I had "Friends" of the Fran program coming at me trying to dissuade any criticism of the program (for fear of losing their place in the program or buddydom etc.), which reminds me a whole lot of the role Jorts is playing here.

Anyway, some really striking similarities along the way. Interesting stuff.

I don't want to be the one to say I told you so, but we play Wyoming on Wednesday in the CBI. WE ARE PAYING TO PLAY IN THIS TOURNAMENT, just like we are still paying BK to coach.

In some kind of twisted, demented way...I kinda want to go to the game. Maybe I've seen too many train wrecks over the years...

So 17-16 is the end record.

Thank You Hyman, 35K was a small price to pay to lose to Wyoming and get another year of BK.

I can't believe we're giving Kennedy another year.
In 3 years Kennedy hasn't finished in the Kenpom/RPI top 100.
Kennedy hasn't made the NIT once.
Kennedy's had numerous horrendous, completely inexcusable losses every year, and we had more this year than last (shows lack of progress).
Attendance has dropped 40% since Turge left.
Our roster turnover has been awful.
Recruiting is merely average in a mediocre conference.

I mean what the hell is Hyman looking at that has him convinced that Kennedy is the answer?

The alternatives.

I mean seriously, how can a program improve their lot in basketball? Seems like the top coaches only want to go to top programs, you have to been really keen on spotting up-and-comers. $Bill was the king of that with BBall coaches and even he couldn't nail three in a row.

It just seems so hopeless for a middling program. Unless you have an ex-NBA coach lined up (and you can't even money whip these guys to come like ex-NFL guys) who is going to generate real excitement in recruiting why even make a move at all?

Its like FBS and FCS football, with programs that can't recruit elite talent stuck at the FCS-level. It is seriously depressing now that we lost our momentum.

I am not trying to be Mr. BAS, but what realistic candidates to replace Kennedy really excite anyone? Is the some guy lined up I don't know about who maybe can really make a difference or were we hoping to get in on the desperate Pearl lottery? Maybe our AD decided he wasn't worth the trouble, therefore no one is worth a contract.

Sorry that was a super-melt. I feel very sad this St. Patty's day.

I just hate where we are as a BBall program.

Edit: One good thing about this forum is I don't melt on tRANT anymore.
