As is with many things in life, the simpletons break it down into black and white issues. You're either full on melting or full on kool aid in their mind.
I used to think our fan base could avoid that mentality and actually use some gray matter, but that's apparently asking for too much.

It's intellectually dishonest at this point to make that statement about Billy Kennedy and the arguments surrounding him.
He is objectively a bad basketball coach. He isn't average, he doesn't have a few flaws, he's good old fashioned bad. After four years and change, if you can't see it at this point you either know very little about basketball or are so hopelessly invested in blind support nothing will ever convince you. Any belief that he will eventually get it done here is simply fantasy after all the data points we have accumulated. It is black and white in 2015.

Well, this year should tell the tale, because we've got more than enough real bb talent to be legit. If we turn out not to be, then there's no way he can be retained. I have real doubts, but I'm rooting for him to succeed.

The tale has been told. If he makes the tourney this year, what will that prove? That Rick Stansbury finally brought in enough talent that even Kennedy couldn't frick it up?
If he won a title with Kentucky's roster, would it somehow make his offensive scheme less inept or his lineup management less puzzling? Of course not. Bad coaches succeed on some level with great talent all the time. It doesng make them better coaches. Kennedy is incapable of doing many things that good coaches do.
It isn't about rooting for him or not at this point, it just is what it is. People can accept or deny it but truth isn't dependent on the misguided posts of projectpat.

And don't misunderstand, every fanbase needs fans like pat. Our athletic department would have gone under without people like him during the dark years of FB and BB. At some point though, once resources are no longer scarce and expectations have largely shifted, too many people like him are detrimental. Fans can be too blindly optimistic.

Kennedy is awesome and you should feel bad for those negative vibes you're putting out man

He's our coach this year, and I'm rooting for him to succeed. It's my personal choice to do so. As I said, I have my doubts.

I'm sure he's a great guy, and he'll still be a great guy when he gets fired three years too late come next Spring.

I root for the team, I just know how the story ends because I've seen it for four years already. I know it as surely as I knew Spav would get shite down by LSU.
Posted on 12/6/15 at 10:25 pm to Roger Klarvin
He could very well be a Spav. But Spav is failing with lots of talent. There's good basketball played all over the country. Until this year, I haven't seen enough legit bb players in our lineups. When House went down last year, we were toast. As I said, if he can't produce a legit team out of this bunch, then he'll be gone.

You cant say Kennedy arguments that you disagree with are intellectually dishonest if you are going to give him zero credit for hiring Stansbury, zero credit for getting the most recent recruiting class, and then waive off any success they have this year.
Are you trying to be a parody of a bad political pundit with those kind of mental gymnastics? Good lord, you couldn't have given a better example of intellectual dishonesty if you tried.

I absolutely can, because none of that has anything to do with his gameday coaching ability. If he were the greatest recruiter alive it wouldn't change the fact that he can't draw up effective half court sets.

To those who don't understand the game well enough to differentiate good Xs and Os from bad I suppose it could appear that way. But if you know enough to watch and critique the intricacies of scheme and game management, there is nothing dishonest about saying a coach good at "X" is still bad at actually coaching basketball.
Billy Kennedy could win any number of games he wants, he's STILL a bad coach until the actual scheme shows he has improved. In four years he has yet to effectively coach high school basics of off ball motion into our players. It's pathetic.

now you are going to go the "you dont understand what you are seeing" route?

If you believe Billy Kennedy is a good schematic basketball coach then you either don't know what to look for or are willfully ignoring it.
Basketball is a hard sport to appreciate the actual scheme because it is more fluid and faster paced than football. There's no shame in not appreciating the intricacies. I had the fortune of growing up in an unusually basketball heavy family with multiple family members in coaching at various levels. I could describe the triangle offense and 2-3 high zone before I could multiply two digit numbers. I recognize bad schemes and poorly coached players as readily as a missing left hand. Our players literally don't know how to set off ball screens or move effectively without the ball.
Dudes just bad at his job. I've said it since the end of his first season and I'll say it until he gets an epiphany or is fired.

Also, and this bugs the shite out of me, our wing players drift way too far inside when they are off the ball. It allows their defenders to easily step inside and help on drives. We don't do basic fundamental shite like don't pull your defender toward a penetrating guard. It's maddening.

And I take no pleasure in being right here. If I had the choice, Kennedy would figure it out and excel for a decade here. I'd happily be proven wrong and during his second year here I tried to trick myself into believing he would prove me wrong.
The fact is though that 50 year old coaches don't suddenly "get it". In four years he hasn't shown a shred of schematic improvement. Now he has a roster that Tom Izzo would win a title with and can't get them to so much as cut to the basket effectively with consistency.

ehh, I decided to go w/sniffing farts over head up the arse b/c I think it leads to a better facial expression when it clicks in a persons head what I just said to them.

fairly debatable IMO considering the offense has clearly changed from year one to now

well now you're just throwing darts and pretending its fact

again, fairly debatable IMO.
