- Carter's commit left everyone wondering when the next domino would fall and where it would come from. I'd say keep your eye fixated on Baton Rouge now that Christian Harris has returned from his weekend visit to Tuscaloosa and the feedback we're getting is that the Aggies still lead. As a side note, I heard this weekend that the 240-plus pound (yes, you read that correctly even though most list him around 230) linebacker set his school power clean record with a jaw-dropping lift of 365 pounds. That's Quentin Coryatt-type stuff right there, folks, and it's coming from a young man who is athletic enough to line up at receiver and even corner at north of 240. Harris is a guy I believe the Ags simply must grab at linebacker this year. A tremendous prospect at a need position and a guy who is built, can run and plays like an SEC linebacker should.

One Linebacker commit / signing will address depth chart issues?
Otaro Alaka - Senior, Tyrel Dodson - Jr, Anthony Hines - Soph, Buddy Johnson - Soph. Everyone else is a walkon and Johnson is more of a hybrid / transition to LB'er.

You can’t solve the depth problems in one class. Getting Harris along with who we have committed would be a step in the right direction

it's been a good while since I can remember the Ags signing as natural a cover man, maybe dating back to Sammy Davis coming out of Humble nearly 20 years ago.
he was saying this about devante harris too

How is 6-2, 220 not a true LBer?
Because he doesn't play linebacker
Go watch Elko's ND defense last year, the rover is essentially a box safety who blitzes more often.

Can we take all of these...or what about any other potential prospects:
Wydermyer, Harris, Stripling, Ugwoegbu, Wright? That makes 28 plus there seems to be another dark horse up Fisher's sleeve.

I thought the plan the whole time was to lock down the class before the season and hold.

Jimbo had to really scramble to try to put together last year's class due to the early signing date. I wonder if he came away from that experience with a resolve to lock up as much of his next class as the earliest date possible.
I suppose if the players are gonna sign early, then the coach has to adjust and assemble his class early.

I like that we are locking down the class...but can we take 28? Are these the last 5...or is there somebody I'm missing other than like a top 100 guy that is a take regardless (i.e. Dean)

I’ve coached the 4-2-5. Calling Buddy Johnson a safety is misleading. That position plays much more like a traditional OLB than a traditional safety.
Again, if you refuse to a knowledge that Buddy Johnson is a LBer, then you’re essentially saying that only Inside LBers are “true LBers,” and I think that’s silly.

Elko doesn't run a traditional 4-2-5. A good example of that is Patterson's defense at TCU which utilizes a base formation with 4 down-linemen the majority of the time.
What Elko runs is more similar to the 3-3-5 that WVU ran in the mid-2000s, with one of the three "LBs" being a standup DE and one of the 5 "DBs" being a hybrid player. He'll only have three down lineman in a traditional stance >50% of the time and almost always on passing downs.
Johnson won't be filling gaps most of the time, he'll be responsible for edge contain and be brought on edge blitzes. He'll be in coverage A LOT more than a traditional OLB and slightly more than his equivalent player in a traditional 4-2-5. He'll also be moving around the formation far kore than any OLD would ever be asked to do.
My point is that if any of our actual linebackers gets hurt, we won't be able to rely on Buddy Johnson to fill that void. Thus talking about him in the context of LB depth is, IMO, not appropriate.

Looks like we are getting another commit this week. On both Hamm's site and TA there is lots of talk of one happening. A couple of posters on Hamm's site say it will go down on Wednesday and Brauninger said it will be within "days."
Seems like Dylan Wright is the consensus guess.

would be interesting to see it be harris considering bama has reengaged and their 247 guy is acting like bama would take his commitment now
