Probably a good hire for them but who knows. He’s got his work cut out that’s for sure. And he’s got Jimbo a hundred miles to the east.

Probably is. I honestly think Herman did a pretty good job this year considering the circumstances. A 2 and 3 point loss to TCU, and Iowa St. and a loss to OU. Iowa St was pretty damn good and so was OU as demonstrated in their bowl games. Their open pursuit of Urban led to Herman getting fired after a pretty good year and dominating bowl win.

Sark seems like a better fit from a personality standpoint. Is he a better coach? I'm not so sure but who can say yet. I don't think he is clearly better.

Its not a guaranteed disaster like keeping Tom Herman.

Hes already let go of Herb Hand(OL) & Yancy Mcknight (S&C LOL Coach) which even absent replacements, would be an upgrade.

I think he could be pretty good. I expect him to hire a really good staff considering the assistants he’s rubbed shoulders with in the past. This is where Herman failed I think. The question to me is if he puts up a couple 9-3 or so seasons to start will Texas sit back and wait or will the walls start to close in

His contract isn’t even ridiculous like I expected.

I think it’s a solid hire for them, but remember the sips think they’re God’s gift to world. They want a splash hire, one that makes waves, and is noteworthy (why they threw Saban’s and now Meyer’s names during searches). Sark is kinda underwhelming for them. His record as a HC isn’t anything special.

Herman might be a decent coach and he may go somewhere else and do well, but he’s a tool. The mocking of the Mizzou QB several years ago, flipping off the camera on recruiting day, kissing his players.... dude is just an arse. I wish they would’ve kept him longer because I don’t think he’s good enough to build a program into a yearly contender. And he fit the weird Austin culture to a T.

I really think Tom Herman was a grade A weirdo who probably had undiagnosed autism, but he wasn't a terrible coach. He alienated the fanbase, players+families, and boosters because he wanted to run a program like Urban Meyer. He didn't want to be told how to do things.

I highly doubt Sarkisian can be successful unless the UT boosters do what our boosters did and GTFO of the way. Texas boosters love to influence recruiting, micromanage staff hires, and have their egos stroked. I'm not sure Sark has a chance with so many smug assholes stirring the pot.

Guessing part is the buyouts they had to dish out but I also wonder if he held money off to use on his staff instead
