we think we had a good weekend and have some momentum and probably right now sit in a good spot but are a long way from having him committed or signed

It's possible, but there are probably 10 guys I feel way more confident about that are fairly highly rated.

I would have thought we learned from Sumlin that we shouldnt do extensions when they still have years left on their deal. If they want to rework it and add bonuses and pay then fine. But no reason to add more years when he has seven left

That was due to the Eagles sniffing around. If Jimbo has another top 10 season then I would start talks.

My personal opinion is, if we think Jimbo is the guy (and I whole heartedly think he is) then we should extend him and shut down all rumors and talk of him getting picked off by another school

His contract will be cheap when you compare it to what else we're trying to spend. 90 M on the indoor facility, academic, & bright renovation.

That would require a commitment from Jimbo, not an extension from A&M. He already has 6 additional years of guaranteed money beyond the upcoming season, but with zero penalties for him walking away, there is no reason for the rumors (whatever they might be) to stop
