Auburn usually doesn't recruit 3*'s. It could very well be because Gus is a dead man walking, and most recruits are aware. As for Walker, now that we have coaches that can teach, I have no issue
Maybe he is this year's Baylor Cupp.

Half of the DTs on Auburn's roster are 3 stars

Also a players’ ranking can change drastically between now and signing day

To keep piling on, 19 of their 45 signees in 17 and 18 were 3*

Like when a recruit commits to Texas and their stock miraculously skyrockets?
The point is, a lot of these "recruiting analysts" don't know dick about football. Guys like Liucci and Ketchum never played the game or have coached a single day in their life. Yet we're supposed to take their word on who is "raw" and who is a blue-chip?? The only thing they're good at is charming HS boys into telling them how they feel. That's it.
shite, Texas fans are still waiting on that brisket Geoff promised them a while back.

I get it riding high off the visit and top 3 was dropped. Terrace Marshall was going to A&M remember?

Don’t think anyone is arguing recruiting rankings are perfect but they do matter. There is a pretty direct correlation between recruiting rankings and winning

Sounds like jaylon Jones is having a strong camp right now. He might get his bump on rivals

Here is Tarps evaluation of Walker, compares him to Keke. Tarp is one that doesn’t do any sugar coating.

Man Malik fricked everything. It was all confirmed from OB and everything
. We’ll see I think Roy ends up at Bama.

Jones won DB MVP and Raikes won the Gatorade award, not really sure what that is.
Also of note, Tennessee QB commit won the QB MVP award, don’t understand how King would look at that situation and not see A&M is the better option.

Of course he did
. I’m telling you Bama. But I’ll ride the roller coaster with you.

There is obviously a general correlation between rankings and talent. But I suspect that a statistically significant difference in the rankings of two recruits is larger than most people treat it.
But talent is just one ingredient in wins and losses. There is another variable called good coaching. Sure, Alabama has highly rated recruiting classes. But Saban also knows how to coach and assemble them into a team.
As for Walker, he cited Elijah Robinson as a big factor in his decision. I have no opinion yet on him as a talent evaluator, but he seems to know how to get the most out of the DL. Daylan Mack had largely underperformed his star value until Robinson got hold of him.
Either through better technique and/or lighting a fire under him, Mack finally lived up to his potential. I think we will be fine up front on the line with Robinson and Price in charge. It will likely be the strength of our defense going forward.
It is at LB and CB where I am still not sure if we will be any better than average. I'd like to see some player development this year to get comfortable there, no matter the recruiting rankings.

Agree with Pike 100%. Robinson appears to be a good "coach", because Mack's improvement last year was notable. However, to be fair, the secondary was playing WAY better at the end of the year, though I think our DB coach leaves a lot to be desired in his evaluations and recruiting ability
Hopefully the CB's continue to improve. As for LB, we are just plain snake bit at that position. Doesn't matter who we recruit or put there - our 5* has been hurt most of his career. Hopefully he's healed enough to contribute
This year will help to determine future defensive recruiting efforts. If Elko can produce yet again, then the recruiting is going to improve.
