He’s had moments of brilliance, but this is far from his only bad game. A lot of the mistakes he was making against ND he made against Miami last year. Missing easy throws, longer throws sailing on him and fluttering, overall poor footwork. The Auburn game his freshman year was a disaster.

I’m not saying this to say he should be benched, more so that he may not be the top of the first round/Heisman level talent that our fanbase has hyped him to be. I still think he’s a QB you can win a lot of games with and he should continue to improve with consistent playing time in a more functional offense. Injuries and our previous staff did him no favors.

Or against LSU

Connor was very accurate vs LSU in 2022, but he only threw for 155 yards. Achane with his 200+ rushing and Moose with his ridiculous catches won us that game.

I’m not as down on Connor as a lot of the fanbase is right now, but that’s probably because I was never as high on him as much of the fanbase was during the offseason either. Sure he’s had some good games, but I’ve yet to see him consistently take over and win a game with his arm. Part of that has been horrific offensive line play the last couple of years.

Very well stated, couldn’t have said it better myself.

Remember when Kenny hill was “the next guy”? Then it was Kyle Allen & Kyler. Then Haynes king.

I get the fanbase wants another heisman level QB, but the reality is they don’t just grow on trees. The blind worship of Connor has been puzzling to me. He looks like a good, serviceable qb, but I’ve yet to see him be an elite qb yet. Maybe that changes over time, I certainly hope it does. But he ain’t there yet.

He was a true freshman against Auburn (on the road, BTW).
Against Miami, he was a true sophomore in a very hostile environment, and the team still scored 33 points.
It's not like non-stellar games disqualify someone from being an elite quarterback.

The worst case in my head wasn't s bad as Weigman. How on earth did it happen?

Stephen McGee on Texags has been high on Weigman. But today he essentially stated he was not as good an athlete as Mond. He didn't shout it out but he did say it in passing.

They don’t, but if you think this was the first bad game of his career you haven’t been paying attention. There’s a whole big middle ground between bad and elite by the way that’s still a perfectly fine outcome for him

Also LOL at Miami being a “very hostile environment”

Google tells me attendance for that game was 48,792. I think even Baylor manages to have higher attendance than that….

I do appreciate your unlimited optimism. I used to view everything with koolaid glasses too, until the Sherman, Sumlin and Jimbo eras made me a realist.

It was probably significantly louder last Saturday when we were on offense at home than that Miami game on the road

As the Good Book says:

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen

I'm trying to be the evidence for us having an elite QB and team.

We were never gonna learn anything from this game but it was exactly what we needed it to be. A pure arse whooping from start to finish.

Agreed, we don’t know much more about our team after this game.

Saw some coverage busts in the defense that needs to be cleaned up.

Don’t have a great feeling watching ND down to NIU 7-13 at halftime, ND isn’t a great team, we should’ve won week 1.

Not a good team. Not going to have a good offense anytime soon. When does baseball start?

Colorado Alt?

It’s week 2, I’m not hitting the panic button. We don’t have any real clue what this team is or could be. Could be terrible, who knows. But hardly anyone looks terrifying rn so forgive me for not freaking out like everyone else just yet. And ND losing means absolutely nothing to me, I knew they’d drop one at some point this season like they always do under Freeman. Granted I didn’t expect it to happen this week.

Come back to me after the Florida game, my opinion may change

Today? Probably. By Thanksgiving? Maybe, maybe not. Look at what we were in early 2012 vs. the team that skulldragged Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl. Not even the same team by season's end. We could get better or worse. Let's just see how it goes and enjoy the season.
