fyi, this is only ties our longest bowl streak ever (we've actually won 3 in a row twice before). Sumlin's spin was for the players.
This is the first time we've won 3 in 3 consecutive years. But bowl game used to be rare and only the top teams went so before the 80s, I don't believe we ever even had 3 years in a row going to a bowl.

We did not go to a bowl in 1988. We were on probation and Jackie had to quit at the end of the season.
