LSU for a few reasons.

#1 - Because we are in many recruiting battles with them over the years. Worst one was Harvey Williams of Hempstead back in the 80s.

#2 - I am in the oilfield AND in the Houston area and there are quite a few LSU fans I come across pretty often.

#3 - We do have some history with them.

LSU by a wide margin for me. After that.. possibly Arkansas. We just don't hear much about Arky in Houston area so it is kind of hard to consider them a "rival".

LSU is a more natural rivalry, Arky seems to be more forced.

As an LSU fan, I don't see how it can't be anyone but us and Arky, but Arky is second tier...

The A&M/LSU rivalry is gonna be good. I know that LSU claims to have no rivals, but the fact that they're coming to our place every other Thanksgiving day says otherwise. They're too arrogant to admit it, but they want this rivalry.

I'm curious as to how the Arkansas-A&M game was viewed back in the SWC days. Was it considered a rivalry back then or was it more like how Tennessee-Georgia is viewed where it's just two successful teams that have played each other 100 times going at it, but isn't considered a real rivalry.

To me, LSU is such a natural rival for A&M. I can't wait to see it move to Thanksgiving week/day because I really think it's going to be a fun game to watch

I get the feeling the SWC had that "every game is a rivalry" feel but obviously wasn't close to Texas. I think LSU was bigger in the 80's and early 90's for sure and I bet Baylor was as well because the schools are like an hour apart. No idea what the Tech game was like then. I was in school when Leach was there and they were our clear #2 rival

that's not true at all. Most of the older Tigers know and respect the rivalry. The young ones are coming around. When you don't play someone for 15 years, a lot of fans forget.

But there are legitimate reasons why A&M-LSU has become heated every time we play - our fan bases overlap each other and our recruiting base does as well. It can't help but heat up. LSU's problem is they don't have that proximity rival. People from LA don't move to Arkansas and OM has mostly sucked for so long it's like Baylor to us.

They don't reject it. They just don't know it til we beat them. Then it's gonna sting like a mother.

this is how I always viewed it. Texas and Arky were rivals. A&M and Arky competed for the SWC title

It probably was for a while but not really by the early 90s. Mostly I remember it being a "I'm bored out of my mind" feel.

I had a talk with an old college roommate the other day. He made an excellent point to me. Football games weren't half as fun in the early 90s. You knew you were going to win and a close win sucked. I remember we played Rice at Kyle in like 94 and the final was 7-0. Worst game ever. We won but we all walked out pissed off. There was simply no excuse for a close win.

Today, we have many games on the schedule that you honestly don't know which way they'll go. We should win, but it isn't like playing Rice, TCU, SMU, Tech, etc back in the 90s (I think every single one of those teams is a lot better today than they were back then).

People do move to Houston and Dallas though.

indeed. That was the point I was trying to make - apparently unsuccessfully

LSU's fanbase fans out from MS to TX. OM could be a big rival but they just haven't been competitive enough.

I hope so. With both of us needing a rival, things couldn't have been setup much better.

Tmc, I remember those early 90s years. I was young, but I remember getting so pissed at the tv every week. Recently went back and looked at the yearly records/scores and was shocked at how good we were. I definitely didn't remember them as years of plenty, but they were.

I take it personally because Arky crushed our national title hopes in 1975.

Granted that was before I was born, but it would be nice to have a national title since the atom bomb was invented.
