Ok real football talk time.
Mike Evans has obviously started out hot and seems to be Johnny's favorite target, but as the season goes on and more teams figure him out, who do you have as our leading receiver at the end of the year.
We've got lots to choose from!
I think Mike leads receptions, and EZ leads TD's

I see Swope pulling away with more receptions as the year progresses.

The only non-starting WR in the top 5 of our receiving numbers is Thomas Johnson.

I still see Swope as the leading WR. Evans has a bright future but against SEC DBs he will go through some growing pains I think as a Freshman.

I only see Evans getting better and better. I think in 3 or 4 games when Manziel learns how to take advantage of his heigth, look out. He has a 5 to 6 inch height advantage over all most every corner he will see. Tough to bring down 1 on 1.
Evans and then Swope by < 10 catches.

Evans has been such a pleasant surprise.
Still see Swope leading the team, especially as he figures out more and more what Johnny wants him to do on those broken plays.

This I think that early on we're seeing Johnny go to the guys he knows the best, Showers immediately went to Askew and McNeal in his first series, and Johnny to the young guys, just like Swope was Tannehill's first option. I would definitely like Swope to be more involved though, we're going to need 4 good options to spread out the better defenses were going to face.

one reason that Swope has been less involved is both Florida and SMU bracketed the inside guys daring JFF to beat them outside. It also allows the safeties to creep up to the LOS and slow down the run/swing plays.
Honestly until JFF proves he can throw a more catchable deep ball, everyone is going to do that to us. If he does it though, the whole game changes bc they can't keep putting our outside guys in 1v1 coverage

Some of Evans' catches have been down right sick! Unfortunately, some of been out of bounds. I love his ability to go up and fight for the ball and make the catch.

This is an astute observation. Florida bracketed Swope until it became apparent that they were going to be getting pressure with relative ease, and the consequence was that they brought the safety up and off Swope to make JFF go over the top. Of course, he never did.

As long as Evans keeps improving week after week, it should really open things up for Swope. The continual emergence of Evans, with JFF constantly targeting him, will force teams to pick your posion between he and Swope.

My wife has noticed I have a man crush on Mike Evans. Dude seems legit.
I think he and Swope will end up as our top 2 at the end of the year, Swope does some amazing work for a short, white guy.

I think Evans is the real deal. He hasn't really come out of nowhere either, people have been talking about how good this kid is since last season.
I think he ends up leading in both receptions and TDs.

Also, in the UF game Swope was lined up on the left and Johnny naturally rolls right
In the SMU game Swope was lined up on the same side of the field with Evans more and that helped
Or that's what my beer goggles remember. I haven't treat he'd yet

yeah that's a good point but if I had to guess it's a matter of gameplan. It may be they were just trying to draw attention away from Evans by putting Swope on opposite side.
We clearly limited JFF's reads vs Florida. The offense, once you figure it out, is designed to be really easy for the QB by having multiple progressions in the same window but Manziel isn't yet comfortable progressing to backside routes when under pressure
By keeping Swope on backside a lot, I think we were trying to keep Florida honest and keep too much traffic out of the primary window given coming into the game, he was our clear danger man. SMU was more normal I think but JFF still struggled early. It wasn't until he waited in the pocket a bit more for plays to develop that we started clicking.
He'll get there but this is still really early in his development

Don't see any mention of Nehemiah hicks here. That kid did wonders for short yardage grabs that were clutch against SMU. We seemed to have utilized him quite a bit during that game as well. More-so than I've seen in awhile.
