They will have donors lined up down the block if they hire an AD they all like. And any group of them would help foot the buyout bill if someone like Chip Kelly could be had

They just can't

Money is not the whole issue

Their board won't allow the athletic dept to do it. They will not allow them to spend the equivalent of a new academic building or wing of a library or whatever, to switch head coaches

Charlie gets AT LEAST half way through 2016 and I'm not so sure he doesn't get at least half way through the 2017 season

I also believe that is a part of it

But believe it or not there are people there of influence that do not think football is the end of all things

radio here in Dallas is talking like Patterson won' get anywhere near his full deal when it's all said and done.

They are saying it'll be a $1.4m buyout, he will be reassigned within the department (which they dont think the will accept) or will be fired with cause.

This really isn't possible. ADs jobs are to be dicks 99% of the time so that coaches can be the good guy. The only ADs that are liked are those who preside over a few nattys. Until that point, they all suck

What cause do they have?

Mark of the Texas fan: they always think they have leverage in the situation that they really don't have.

It's just negotiating. He was told he could be re-assigned and come in to work every day doing whatever menial shite they tell him to do OR take a 1-year severance. My guess is they suggest he serve fries in the AD cafeteria or something.

He'll sue. They'll settle for somewhere in between and they'll probably put a badmouth clause on it so he won't go on ESPN and talk shite about Fenves or embarrass the University in some other way. Could get really ugly but I doubt we'll be that lucky

I turned the segment on halfway through so if they gave a reason I didn't hear it.

On the Shag they seem to think he can get popped for cause b/c he apparently lied about some things involving the tennis center, season tickets, and some issues regarding the Erwin Center. What exactly the lies were I did not care enough to discover.

Most of the time they just buy you out but his contract stipulates that they can re-assign him. IE he has to come in to work every day rather than get bought out. If he doesn't show to work he's fired for cause.

So they gave him the option to just go away for 1/5th his contract

I see, good information per usual.

Hell if I was him I would show up and make fries or mop floors every day for $1.4 million a year. Seems like they want him gone so badly that he could easily call their reassignment bluff. That is a lot of money to leave on the table, especially when his AD career is now shot.

I get what you're saying, but it's ridiculous to just ignore those things, just like its ridiculous to ignore special teams. Texas was up 42-14 in the fourth quarter. Saying Rice came close to winning is just ridiculous. Every football fan should know you can't just look at stats and expect them to always tell the full story.

Can you say Texas was outplayed by rice, sure. I just don't think you can say Texas almost lost.

If your objection is to the phrasing, I think you're being overly pedantic, as you could just as easily claim that one can't say UTx was outplayed by Rice. Because turnovers and punt returns are part of "playing". But setting that aside, let's use your phrasing. UTx was outplayed by Rice. That's bad news even if it's a fluke, but at this point it's an established trend.

The horns are still a bad, bad football team, on defense as well as offense.

This was one of those instances where the scoreboard didn't come close to telling the story of the game.

Texas wasn't just outplayed by rice--they were beaten straight up in nearly every phase of the game. Rice shot themselves in the foot repeatedly. It's ridiculous to just point to the score and act like Texas had any business winning that game.

That said, I hope longhorn fans think exactly that and keep Strong around
