Somebody created a Gmail account as “greg.featherston.tcu” and sent me an email that read: “I hope you are sitting at your desk because I am about to type what type of person you are.” I called IT to try to block it, but it went to everybody internally (at TCU) and it was signed, “Greg’s Conscience.”

I love it when trolls get trolled. Props go out to the person responsible.

Wow.

One thing I always do is assume my real name will be attached to whatever I post. It keeps me from saying a lot of dumb stuff. Even if you think you are anonymous, all you have to do is motivate some random message board full of people to ruin you, and at least a few of them will have the know how or determination to find out all your contact info and blow it up for the world to see. This guy just decided to take all that trouble away and made himself an open target. Dumb dumb dumb.

Its honestly a bit terrifying. Makes me want to consider deleting this account and making a new one, cause if you searched hard enough, in years past my real name has been on a post or two.

But that's not really the problem. The problem is that too many people hide behind the veil of the internet in order to say things they would never say. They feel safety is expressing themselves in rather vile ways.

Frankly, what he posted would get him banned on the Rant. But he posted it on his facebook page with his actual name attached and even with his employer and title listed. This isn't really about privacy. He wasn't trolling for a reaction with like minded individuals that understand the game. And he's not a kid. He was a grown arse man openly spewing hate speech. And anyone that does that gets what they deserve imo.

This right here.

Obviously I'm a little more opent in my posting style than some, but my perspective is, as soon as you sign your name on a dotted line anywhere, it's easy for a motivated person to find out who you are. Six degrees of separation is more like 3 or 4 today.

This. Hell, we've all seen perfectly anonymous posters banned from the Rant and other sites for far less.

I can understand "hating" an institution. I can understand trolling them online mercilessly. But we all know where the line of good taste is. And if you ignore that, you deserve what's coming to you.

There's a big difference between posting something stupid on the rant and posting something stupid on facebook. The rant, for the most part, can tell if you're trolling. ******.com and facebook can't.
