Honestly curious as a thread on tSECrant caught my attention. Tbird in particular was very down on Waco. I currently live here and have for 2 years and while I understand that Waco is no DFW, Houston, Austin, or even in some ways B/CS, I don't think it's the dump that many have made it out to be? I didn't know if this was a Baylor thing, more of a personal preference thing or what. I've been to B/CS quite a few times and while I can understand that the younger crowd would probably prefer it there, I think young families-older folks would probably prefer Waco.

TIA

Where's the beef? Honestly curious. Wife and I have loved our move here, tho we aren't the most socialite people in the world? The only thing I have found bad about the city is that the meth user rate on the north side of town is a little higher than what I've been around before. I know that sounds like a big thing, but really no one goes to Lacy-Lakeview part of town unless they have to...I just happen to work in that area

I guess it's just a question of why would I ever want to live there? There just seem to be better options. My love for A&M makes college station a great choice. DFW is nice. Easy to travel from. Melting pot of social scenes. TBH I haven't spent a lot of time in Waco, but if you grow up in College Station it's one of those things. You just don't like waco. I can't explain it. It just simply is.

Thanks man...I just don't get the hate I see from other texans from time to time. I have a similar feeling about Baton Rouge and not wanting to live in New Orleans. And honestly I moved to Waco for a fantastic job opportunity that will likely take me to Houston in a few years. But if it didn't I would have no problem settling here to raise a family. It's a pretty central point similar to B/CS in that it's 1.5 hrs to Austin or DFW and 2.5 to Houston. Even only 1-1.5 to B/CS where I have a few friends that I visit periodically throughout the year. B/CS does seem to have a few better golf courses tho

Brazos county has Miramont, Traditions, and the new A&M course. Bryan Muni isn't great, but it's cheap. Not a bad golfing community.

Glad to have you as a fellow Texan. The corndogs at the state fair are better than that BR crap youre used to.

I as well have only had negative experiences in Waco

However in regards to "beef" between the schools I've always found it interesting. Pretty much everyone hates or likes to make fun of us but it makes sense, we're an easy group for that stuff. But baylor people seem to feel MUCH more strongly about a&m then anyone else which I've always found strange

The history of the rivalry is actually pretty awesome. Way back when Aggy was no girls allowed, the boys would drive up to Waco to meet some nice lady friends. The boys from Baylor didn't like that too much, Aggies taking their women. Thus a Brazos River rivalry was born. Girls love a man in uniform.

I believe tbird has a sister attending Baylor, so he probably has a different perspective than most on Waco.

For 80 to 90% of us, Waco=Baylor, a truly despicable school. Hence the hate the unkind words from A&M fans.

A&M and Baylor have a long history. We've been whipping their arse in sports for a century.

Back when A&M was an all male college they used to take take the girls from Baylor. The men at Baylor didn't take too kindly to it.

There was also the year where Baylor killed an Aggie with a chair in a brawl at halftime. A&M loaded up a cannon and was headed to destroy Waco that night before being stopped by some rangers. They stopped the series for a few years after that.

We stole their live bear mascot a few times.

More recently they blamed and sued A&M for the Big 12's near implosion.

Overall I gotta say not only do I dislikes Baylor, but I don't even respect them. The rivalry with tu is heated, but ultimately I can respect their school, programs, & a large portion of their alumni.

Because I don't have respect I will. Waco is a poor shithole. Probably reminds you of Louisiana which is why you like it, OP. frick Baylor.

I don't think Waco is a dump and don't hate Baylor like many on here

But I'm a southern Baptist so I have many friends that are in various ministries that attended Baylor. So I know more than just the football side of things.

Waco has some really nice parts (one being Baylor's campus) and really ghetto parts in my limited experience going there.

As far as Baylor goes that rivalry goes back a long time. It was fairly dormant when I went to school (07) until we both got good at hoops around the same time. Those were great games. Then they sued us to keep the Big 12 together, which pretty much sums up Baylor as a school and the average Baylor alum IMO.

I've really only ever driven through, but it seems like such a miserable place. Probably all the meth.

I saw a Baylor fan almost get in a fight here in Auburn last night, as he's walking away he looks right at me, eyes wide in rage, and yells f--- you aggie everyone here hates you.

Take it for what you will. He was also slobering over himself he was so drunk
