One top 25 recruiting class on roster. First year HC that didn’t need 3-4 recruiting classes to “get his guys in”.

So so so many advantages in College Station in terms of recruiting classes, facilities, coaches salaries, and overall financial support.

Ags doing a LOT less with a hell of a lot more. I’m jealous. Not ashamed to admit it.

Go Frogs!

I'm glad you posted this. I've been thinking about this for a few days. What does it mean for A&M when Sonny Dykes comes in and turns around a program immediately to the point of getting to the Natty. They have average recruiting classes. They did get 12 players from the portal. My takes are:
1. First and foremost they have a hell of a good team. They are obviously well coached.
2. They grabbed a lot of talent from the portal. I read an article where Sonny Dykes said these additions were critical.
3. They have a grade A tough QB.
4. They have an attitude. In fact the TCU being disrespected stuff is a little tiring.
5. TCU despite being a great team had an easier path than an SEC team.

Now when we compare to A&M:
1. Aggies have had a hard time finding the right QB since Mond and before. I think we have one now.
2. Will we ever be as tough as TCU or have the attitude? I'm beginning to wonder.
3. Will Jimbo take full advantage of the portal? And do players want to transfer to A&M?
4. Coaching??

It’s frustrating as hell to see smaller programs do so much more while having so much less.

The thing I heard last night that resonated is that these kids love TCU.

At one point early in the season, the TCU quarterback was benched… and he said at no point did he consider leaving because he loved TCU so much. Their all world receiver said the same thing.

Based on the portal, it’s clear A&M was just a business decision for many of our recruits.

TCU is a very interesting case, statistics show that you absolutely need consistent, top 10 classes to ever have a shot at winning a title…. Until they made it in this year. Win or lose it’s obviously been a great season for them.

I might end up being completely wrong but I don’t think TCU will stay top tier contenders. I’m not saying Dykes is a flash in the pan either, but I do think he captured lightning in a bottle and all the dominoes lined up perfectly for them this year. Wouldn’t be surprised if they stay competitive in the big 12 and win more games than they lose, but I don’t think they’ll be in the CFP every 3-4 years or anything. Guess time will tell.

As it relates to A&M, it absolutely is frustrating that we haven’t had a similar season in 80+ years. One would think even with a bit of half arse luck and a really good team we’d have worked our way into a title game again eventually (and I’m talking all the big 3 sports). In this millennium: tech played for a basketball title, Baylor basketball won one, tu won a football (and baseball I think), and even rice won baseball. Meanwhile we have nothing, that’s pretty inexcusable. I’m not sure what it is about our athletic department but we’ve just flat out underperformed across the board. Something needs to change.

Garrett Riley is the big difference. Dykes knows to let him direct the offense. LSU fans are all too familiar with not having a competent OC. It matters in today's game. Defense doesn't win championships. Offenses can almost negate any coverage.

Fisher needs to acquiesce and hire a competent OC.

They are currently 2012 A&M who didn’t have to play a strong Florida or LSU team and got a few lucky breaks, didn’t even win the Big12.

They would be one of the biggest anomalies every to win a NC because of how bad their defense is, it is ranked about 30 spots behind ours for total yards given up.

They remind me somewhat of the 2010 Auburn team with Cam Newton, although with less raw talent across the entire roster. Elite offense built around a dual threat QB, with an opportunistic defense that is just good enough to give its offense a chance.

They're a one-off. And I'm not being derisive--like was said earlier itt, they're 2012 A&M except they got the breaks they needed (CFP system, plus played their best game possible against Michigan's worst game of the year--not that they don't deserve credit, but they won by less than a TD against a team that turned it over inside the 3 yard line TWICE, in a game their defense forced TWO pick sixes). Won't have the staying power, I don't believe, but honestly? I wouldn't give a rat's arse about all that if I were a TCU fan. Nor should they. They're on a magical carpet ride that is absolutely worth it whether they beat UGA or not. I'm incredibly jealous of them, and also very happy for them.

Spot on observation. Unfortunately they may be worse than the 2012 A&M team. TCU played their best game against a distracted Jim Harbaugh who was too busy looking for an NFL gig.

The better comparison may be the 2012 Notre Dame team. Chip Kelly beat a bunch of average teams only to get destroyed by an SEC team that year.

TCU beneficiary of easy schedule. Put in their place tonight after Dykes went and ran his mouth. What an incredible whipping! Worst loss ever in post season

EVER!

Possibly also looking ahead to a potential rematch with oh*o state, too.

Great comparison, actually. I agree.
