Manziel was not an option quarterback. We ran the option maybe 2-3 times per game. He was a scrambler.
Umm, that was the option (unofficially). Give Saban a QB who can also run it and he struggles. Go back and look at all of his loses at Bama. Most came from offenses that used the QB run (or in our case scramble)

I agree, it wasn't a designed option, but the result was the same. Effectively we had an option offense even if to use proper nomenclature, they were scrambles.

It's really not the option because we werent designing plays to give the qb reads and or tailback options. It was just a spread and run. That isn't the Vince young option

Johnny bailing after his first or second WR was covered wasn't an option offense. It was him relying on his legs instead of going through his progressions. While he often made big plays he also missed a ton of big gains he could have had by throwing it. Hell, I can clearly remember a play against Miss State that he scored a running TD on that would have been a simple pitch and catch TD to a slot WR had he simply gone through his progressions.

New OC is Mangino. You heard it here first, folks. No way he is "let go" mid season for no good reason. Gotta be him.

I would love this, but I doubt we have the guts.

hard to get excited about Mangino the Hut. There is no doubt he's an offensive genius but he's soooooooooo huge. I wonder if he's a recruiting liability, etc.

He has a natty ring from his time as OC at OU. I think recruits would care more about that.

He also had great teams at Kansas, which pretty much negates any recruiting effect he could possibly have.

He won 12 games including a BCS bowl at KANSAS. He's supposedly a terrible person, but his bona fides are undeniable.

Bruh he just got fired midseason at fricking Iowa State. Go check their boards, they are pumped he is gone.
How can you shite all over Spav but then want a guy who got canned at ISU?
He aint the MM from 2008.

Not saying I want managing, but his resume shits on Spav's
And my read on ISU is that they parted ways due to philosophical differences, not because he was a bad OC

I would rather promote DC.

Chad Morris would get more money to be our OC than he is making as a HC.

He didn't get canned for his performance. He and the HC split because they couldn't agree on the future of the team personnel or scheme.
He's a genius and his resume absolutely demolishes 30 year old Spav's, which consists of one line: failing at A&M.

He's a HC and wants to continue to move up the ladder as a HC. Prestige of being HC and career-track outweigh the difference in pay.

Chad Morris is making $2 million in year one at SMU. We aren't paying him more than that and he ain't leaving his first HC gig after a single season to go back to being an OC.

That sounded much more like Paul Rhoads trying to be nice and take the high road than anything else.
If the offense was performing up to to PR's expectations there never would have been a disagreement in philosophy to begin with.
