Honestly if you'd told me before the season that we'd have this exact W/L record, but I would have to sub the LSU win (and the fashion in which we won) for a win vs. Auburn or State.....I'm picking the lsu win.

I agree. Honestly I wouldn't trade the LSU game for both of those games (and a 10 win season as a result).

For me this was the second best season since I have been an A&M fan so I am tickled.

2010 began and finished on a sour note, but that was a pretty great season, from an enjoyment standpoint and compared to most other seasons we've had since the turn of the century.

The win at Kyle over OU
The win at Kyle over Nebraska
Kicking Baylor+Briles+RG3's arse in come-from-behind fashion
Kicking Tech's arse
Cyrus running all over Texas in Austin
Tannehill's emergence
Von being a stud all season

Guess it depends on how much you hate LSU vs the in-state schools.

Mainly because it seems more sustainable.

I was very happy with how this season went overall but one of my biggest concerns was how many close wins we had. It seemed like with a few bad breaks we could have easily been 6-6 (conversely you could say 10-2 if more went our way I guess).

There wasn’t a single conference game that we just flat dominated. Then of course the bowl game happened. Even if we finish with the same record next year if we can pound an Arkansas or Ole Miss from start to finish like we did with NC State that would be nice

That is true but can be said of most teams in most seasons. We have good talent right now and are thin in a lot of places. This staff showed they can take good talent and compete. What can they do with great talent they are recruiting? I am excited to see. Barring a complete class melt down like the 2013 class I think we are setting up for a very nice run.

I see this very differently. We dominated the box score in most of our conference games.

Opponent Yards TOP
Arkansas +129 +14
Kentucky +212 +15
S Carolina +235 +23
Miss State -91 +6
Auburn +145 +17
Ole Miss +58 +14
La State +25 +3

If we replayed those games over and the box looked similar I am willing to bet we win the Auburn game and extend some leads in the others. We didn't always win the turnover battle and the redzone offense failed us a little too much. Like it was said, it more sustainable because we're not relying on a TO margin or a bunch of big plays each game. Pretty much every game we came in and dictated the game. Not Bama (excluded because Bama) and MSU and somewhat not LSU. We load up on some more line talent and an improved secondary (get rid of the big play against us) and we're going to win a frick load of games.

Good point. Not trying to complain at all and no doubt we are moving in the right direction.

I wasn’t sure what to think about Fisher’s offense coming in from what I had heard. I liked the move to a pro style but was unsure on some other things like his playcalling tendencies. I really liked what I saw this year. Just need to execute better and keep upgrading the talent and we will have a machine offensively

It's always worthwhile to look beyond the mere W-L record, and you're right that we had a lot of tight MOV wins (and the same for some of our losses). And as other pointed out, the yardage delta paints a different picture than the points delta.

If you're looking for some positive confirmation, all the computer polls seem to confirm we were pretty good, but not necessarily great, this year.

Re TO margin:
sip was #19 at +9
Ags were #109 at -7

Given this hugely important stat, our record was pretty damn amazing.

Fisher doesn’t get a pass for MSU and Auburn. Probably a B+ or so. Also, not one draft-eligible player stayed. Terrible for consistency

Judging a coach in keeping juniors seems like a poor metric. As long as he’s recruiting at a high level and we’re putting guys in the league then I am all for it.

I agree. My only caveat would be if these JRs that were leaving early were constantly underperforming or looking for a change in environment. Essentially, is it:
a) this coach can't help me anymore than he already has
b) this coach can't help me

I think there's a big difference between the two
