Unfortunately I am. I like Vitello, but I like Godwin, and Bakich just as much. I'm almost certain that it is going to be Schloss because of the Texas connections though. Plus the fact he beat A&M makes him a popular choice. Hopefully the AD has discretion and picks up Godwin instead.
What could be interesting to watch is if Florida makes a play for Vitello. They already have the facilities built that he wants in Tennessee.

Who’s your source then? You know Tony?

I have a friend/associate that is a large donor to Tennessee - kind of a fanatic. And this guy was in sales for sports apparel for years prior to his current job (think Under Amor or Nike) so he has some connections with the coaching scene, and many major athletes. He told me months ago that Tennessee was putting together a package for Vitello, and that it was going to be substantial. They were worried about LSU coming open at the end of the year. Combine that with everything you are hearing lately, and those are my conclusions ... I could be wrong. Just because I'm sure, doesn't make it fact. As I've said before, I have no large donor friends from A&M (damnit)
If you really look at the situation, this was inevitable with the money the SEC schools are bringing in. Baseball pays a pittance in comparison to football and basketball. A&M could easily afford $2M for a new coach if they wanted (could probably have had Tadlock at that price) ... but nobody has made that jump yet. LSU is going to drive the price WAY up for an elite coach.
I was also told by friends/associates in LA that O'Sullivan was very interested in the LSU job, and that Woodward already had "assurances". I believe it - Woodward is an assassin when hiring coaches.

Sunday morning rumor. Bjork is in OKC interviewing someone. Obvious option would be Schloss.
Posted on 5/30/21 at 9:39 am to Farmer1906
He was rumored to be in OKC a few days ago - Schloss is the obvious one. I really think that Schloss is the primary target due to his keeping us out of Omaha, and his Texas ties. I also think that would be a mistake when younger guys that have that fire for recruiting like Godwin, and Bakich are out there.
I think Schloss would use us for early retirement.

That’s really early retirement. He’s only 50. You get then when Jimbo came here to retire. Plus Schloss has never reached the ultimate goal. 5 trips to Omaha without a title. You know he’s still hungry for it. He was wanted bigly by Mississippi St & tu last time around. Is everyone else just wrong?

This. Just because a guy is 52 and been around awhile doesn't mean he's lost his fire. Hell look at Jimbo.
Schloss still has a lot to prove and has not made it to the top of the mountain yet. But look at his body of work. The man has accomplished a lot of great things but hasn't made it over the hump. To me he's a no brainer pick because of his success. The interview process, etc figures out if the drive is still there. If it is and I've seen nothing that makes me think he's slowing down or lost his fire - then sign the man up.

Like I said, I think he's basically already agreed to the A&M job - doesn't really matter what I think. My friends at TCU think he's gone for sure

Bad news. We didn’t make a regional.

Well I for 1, am shocked

Possible kink in hiring process. TCU looks in prime position to get to the CWS - they got a very favorable draw. If he gets back to the CWS, not sure that he comes. This should be fun to watch,. I'd love to see us interview others, even if Schloss is the guy we've targeted

You know, we should approach Texas to talk to Pierce.
The meltdown would provide hours upon hours of entertainment.

That would be funny - I'd like to see us interview him simply for the chuckles

A few more posts on TA back this up.
I pulled some of the recruiting info. It swings wildly depending on who's giving out the info. If you trust D1 (Aaron Fitt) then Schloss has been the best recruiter. If you trust Perfect Game then Vitello has. Both have been better than RC.

For our sake I hope neither Schloss nor Vitello make a deep run in the tourney and LSU and Florida do. I want to be able to make a hire before them.

Yes, please. Let TCU 2nQ in their own regional. Leave them with a bad taste in their mouth so they won't try too hard to keep him.
Posted on 6/1/21 at 6:38 pm to Farmer1906
I might be wrong but it feels like TCU always gets their top guys to school

It sure seems that way. They definitely do a better job than we do. Probably not quite on that Vandy level though.
