I don’t really care about baseball, but have always liked the Sox for some reason. Went to a game at Fenway once and it was awesome.

I've lived in Houston my whole life (minus my time at A&M of course) and I'm not an Astros fan. Maybe a casual baseball fan when I'm bored in the summer. But I'm definitely not watching any playoff games.
But my friends...Oy vey! They have never cared about the Astros until last year. All of a sudden, they were all lifelong fans
Not gonna lie though, I miss the days when I could go to an Astros game and have entire rows for myself. It was a good way to unwind. Selfishly, I hope they lose and we go back to the way things were.

Fenway is awesome. I have the exact same feeling when I first went (Wrigley too).

Been to a playoff game at Fenway and it’s a shite hole, but a fun shite hole.

Fenway was like this up until 2004
I’m not sure but I think you’re one of your friends that doesn’t follow baseball. I’ll give you a pass if you’re under 30
Houston was always very high in the attendance rankings for MLB, only after 2011 did attendance plummet. Fans were pissed about MLB forcing and blackmailing the Astros into the American League. No fan wanted this. Add in the crappy tv broadcasting decisions that left 80% of Houston unable to watch the Astros in tv for years and that’s what happened.
Houston up until 2011 was very much one of MLBs top baseball cities, before 2004 World Series Boston struggled to be one.

Truthfully i'm still pissed about this.

I don't get this about baseball nerds. Why is this such a big deal? You get a designated hitter, you play the Texas rangers more often, and then you also get the Red Sox/Yankees at home now. The only downside is having to watch away games end at midnight.
Besides, this won't be the first time the Astros get put in a different division. The NL West was their home for the longest of time. What am I missing?

I think this is where your disconnect is with how baseball fandom works.
It’s about history it’s about tradition, no one cares about the Rangers, no one. We were in the best division in baseball and major-league baseball said screw you Houston fans.
Like the man above us said, we are still pissed off about it

So the move from NL West to NL Central?
I guess I don't get this "history" obsession considering the Astros are still a fairly new team established in the 60s. I would get the outrage if this was the Red Sox moving to the NL or the Cubs moving to the AL. Now those teams have history.
Nothing should surprise Houstonians anymore after the Oilers left town. Lots of folks seem to forget that it's a business first and foremost. We are all just blessed to have the privilege to pay for their stadiums

Because it was done unfairly, Selig moved his buddy's team the Brewers back to the NL and forced the Astros to the AL.The move from west to central in the NL was due to expansion and evening out the divisions (plus it set up another play off round ie:$$$$) but the railroading we got when the league change happened irks the piss out of me. I don't care if you understand it or not

true dat. i miss hating the braves and cardinals

Looking back I don't hate the move. AL ball is better than NL ball. The DH is a very very good thing.
At the time I was livid. It was complete and total BS. I'm still salty about all the west coast start times. It's a pain the in the arse. I think there needs to be further tweaking.

History and tradition went out the window when interleague play started. Now baseball is just like any other sport. When expansion happens don’t be surprised if every team has a DH and the leagues are based on geography if there are even any leagues at all.

I had that opinion until I lived the AL. It’s superior.
