So we're convinced it is someone in the playoffs right?

Possibly, but not a certainly. Could be a non-playoff bowl participant

Late last month, Kalen DeBoer and the Washington administration extended offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb. After signing a 2-year deal at $1 million per year upon joining his boss from Fresno State ahead of this season, Grubb signed a 3-year extension that would've paid him a school-record $1.45 million in 2023, rising by $120,000 per year to $1.67 million in '25.

Turns out, Grubb has broken his own record without even coaching a game.

According to multiple reports on Tuesday, Washington has bumped Grubb's contract a second time since the Huskies' last game. The deal will still run through 2025, but now pay him a flat $2 million per year.

In all, it's an extra $1.33 million, and it comes after the Houston Chronicle reported Grubb was a person of interest in Texas A&M's ongoing offensive coordinator search.

We all should have become football coaches. Holy hell at how fast salaries are inflating.

This is the quietest coaching search I've ever seen. Anyone have any clues or info?

It would be fantastic if it went quiet and is taking this long just to land Riley after the title game. I don't expect that at all, but one can dream.

Think Jimbo's been waiting to talk to certain coaches after their bowl game or after the playoffs. I think we'll know something soon and yes its very quiet.

Feels almost like a repeat of last year's coaching searches. Jimbo won't let his ego take a rest and so the top choices will stay put/get pay raises, or go elsewhere with better prospects to shine. We will end up with paying good sums to some retread with some name recognition to sooth our nerves but who will be a net negative.

BAS talking or the reality, we will soon find out.

While it's still too early to characterize what's happening with the 2023 OC search in my opinion, I don't agree with this characterization of the 2022 DC search.

I'm not a fan of Durkin as a person or as as def coordinator, but I think it was pretty clear that he was at/near the top of Jimbo's wishlist for DC from the start. Who are you saying turned us down last year?

It's either this or someone in the NFL. What other possibilities are there?

Sherrone Moore's season ended a little over 48 hours ago. Andy Ludwig's season ended less than 24 hours ago.

No clue who Jimbo is targeting but I could see it being either of those guys and negotiations getting hammered out this week.

A hire from the NFL seems a bit random, what connections does Jimbo have to any coaches (or staffs) in the NFL right now?

last year's OL Coach search threw up Steve Addazio in early January after Jimbo had many days and many more relevant candidates to consider. 24/7 had this list of top potential ones:

Things got so quiet, Good Bull Hunting made one of their trademark joke posts about the search on January 7th:
LINK

As it is, Addazio wasn't announced until January 21, a full month after Henson left to join Lincoln Riley at USC. I'm willing to guess Addazio wasn't the first choice in that month of looking around. Jimbo had an almost intact line returning plus several 4-star recruits and top rated QBs, so he should have been able to get an OL coach who had coached OL in the last decade maybe. As such, Jimbo had to bring Steve's son along for the ride too, since his son was the OL coach at the last coaching stop Steve made before landing at A&M. I guess it must be a sweet deal to get the son for free when you hire the dad, or something?

I'm not totally writing off Addazio but he wasn't an impact hire, and likely wasn't a top choice. He isn't young either. Not sure how well he recruits.

At least the DC spot was filled sooner than the OL coach, having DJ Durkin announced on January 5th, per texags.

SI's hot board didn't feature Durkin:

At the time of Durkin's hire, though, Jimbo had said that he is still involved in the D, that the scheme won't change just because there will be a new DC, etc.

I don't know how the Addazio hire supports your argument, either. What role did Jimbo's ego (?) play in that hire? Which coach specifically didn't come to A&M because of Jimbo's "ego".

It easier to just say that Jimbo sucks at hiring OL coaches and like almost every other coach, tends to favor hiring people he previously crossed paths with in some respect.
