I called it. I fricking called it. We're going to end up with a Gary Darnell, Joe Kines type of hire and it's going to be the end of Sumlin.

I don't understand how anyone is melting - we've been saying all week that it looks like Foster is our guy. Maybe next week, no one really knows. Muschamp takes a job and all of a sudden we fricked the whole DC search up.
The appropriate time for tMelt to commence is when Foster stays at VT or takes a HC job elsewhere.

Sumlin would never have fired Snyder to hire a Darnell.

With all this talent, all these resources, we have NOTHING to show for it. I'm starting to feel like the emperor has no clothes.

This is right. We simply do not know right now.

I'm reserving judgement until I hear what Venables and Foster are officially doing.
If neither of them, tmelt will insue

To be fair, he went from having this unlimited budget and the ability to hire whoever he wants to being limited to only a pretty good budget that isn't enough for any top tier candidate.
We are the like the dad in Transformers. We show up on the lot ready to buy a car guns blazing, then after some sticker shock we ask for some cheaper options.
Plenty of good cars/coaches still out there. Someone who is not making big money now who can make us better. At the end of the day it doesn't matter what we think of the hire. All that matters is that Sumlin can sell the hire to recruits. At this point the Malik Jefferson recruitment has become the most important moment in his A&M career.

We are new money to the talent and resources thing. When Sumlin has ripped off a decade of mediocrity like Georgia has then I think this applies.

The DC hire is the most important moment of his career. Landing Jefferson is just a likely result from making a good DC hire

Strongly disagree. Sumlin is good enough recruiting that I think he could sell damn near anyone to recruits. We need a good coordinator who can make our defense show rapid improvement with the current players, not just someone who can be sold to HS kids.

Now that the on field results have dried up, and we are lacking the resources to make a huge splash hire at DC possibly, the ONLY chance we have to keep positive perception momentum is a top 5 recruiting class. That class is the reason we will be ranked when we shouldn't be the next year or two, which will help us get the thing we need the most- a third top five class!

I somewhat agree with you there. We need a good coordinator, no doubt. This hire does matter for that. With that said, maybe the best option for Xs and Os isn't the best option on paper. So we still need an option Sumlin can sell. We HAVE TO get a top 5 class, which can't happen without Malik's commitment.

C'mon, man. No one would've intentionally fired a Synder to hire a Darnell.
A Darnell is something that happens to you. Like gout or a car accident. It's happening to Sumlin right now either because the Big Cigars or Hyman wouldn't pony up or because the targets had better choices or were predisposed against Sumlin/A&M forwhatever reason.

I care about A&M football. If you did, you'd be upset about us ending up with Gibbs aka Kines aka Darnell.

Dude, one of the three is gone so far and we don't know the story with the other two.
If both of them sign sub $1.5mil extensions then the blood runs in the street in regard to not wanting to be on our staff.

Serious question: why not Chizik?
Quality recruiter
Texas ties, east texas and UT/Dallas (which could help with losing Beaty)
Experience in putting a viable defense on the field when your offense is fast paced
Worst defenses he had were at Iowa State
