This thread was Speedy...er fast.

I have a feeling he's in the doghouse again.
Guy's a headcase.
Not as talented as he was supposed to be anyway. We struck out on two highly-rated WR: Speedy & RSJ.
Kirk is everything Speedy was supposed to be and then some though. Kirk is the Truth. I wonder if Speedy ever watches the games and thinks "Damn, Kirk is living the life I was supposed to have."

Speedy and RSJ are very talented, they just haven't put everything together as of yet. There have been flashes though. Personally I think a lot of it is because they are having more difficulty transitioning from QB/Athlete to WR. They have the physical gifts but not the technique. Both of them were guys that spent their entire lives prior to college being so much more physically talented than their competition that they didn't really have to develop it, they could just out athlete everyone. You can't do that at this level, you have to have the technique to go with the skills.
I also think there has been an adjustment process of figuring out the best place to put those guys. RSJ seems to be settling in as an inside guy/H Back that could develop in to a Jimmy Graham type, he just isn't there yet. Speedy is being used almost exclusively on the outside and he is showing some skills there but he seems to still be relying on his physical skills too much and not developing disciplined route running and techniques, for instance he seems to catch a lot of balls out of bounds and he rarely catches anything away from the sideline. It also hurts both of these guys that there is still only one football to go around and Kirk and Reynolds both look like NFL players and the other WR's on the roster have talent as well.
When you look at Kirk he was a WR all the way, though he played some RB in HS as well just to get him the ball more. He is far more of a developed WR that has an advanced understanding of route running and how to maneuver in space. Essentially he went from running the exact same routes and offense in High School to doing so at A&M and he has blossomed. Dude is also just a flat out beast.

Everything I read about Kirk says that the kid is a steely-eyed missile-man who spends his spare time studying tape and focuses ultra-hard on running routes to technical perfection. He's supposedly, from reports on the team, a grown-man maturity-wise and looks at his time at A&M as his job.
Nothing I've ever heard about Speedy says he has anything like that mentality, and rumor has it that he's been a discipline problem.
I think that's the difference.

Speedy has an injury
But he will never be as good as Kirk.

Kirk is a special player. They don't come around that often do they? Glad we have him.

Kirk is certainly looking like the better WR. He appears to have all of the athleticism Speedy has with better technique, etc.
I honestly think Speedy would excel in a Percy Harvin role, much like Harvin was used at UF.

I agree that we shouldn't write both speedy and RSJ off as busts in their sophomore seasons. Speedy had a decent year last year as a true fish and with Reynolds really coming into his own that season. RSJ had a lot of passes thrown his way by "trill" so I know he can get open, maybe he just doesn't have the chemistry with Allen yet. He's been overthrown several times in the end zone when we are inside the 10, no smal feat considering he's like 6' 6".
I will agree Kirk this year is what I expected out of speedy once he developed at A&M. One thing I know for sure is our receiver corps is easily a top 10 in the nation and probably top 5, as a wr you either put forth the effort and work hard or someone else will replace you as we have a ton of talent all over the field.

Yeah I disagree that Kirk is as good as speedy.
Speedy plays a different position that gets less touches in general, but he can absolutely make some freak athletic plays.
He will be back and we will have a monster WR lineup of
Speedy - RSJ - Kirk - Reynolds
That right there is the best starting WR lineup in college football, hands down.

I've lost count of how many times I have seen him do it, but Kyle Allen has a bad habit of leading our outside receivers out of bounds to make catches on sideline routes. They often still catch it, but it's out of bounds.
End of mini-rant regarding our wide receivers....

Sideline throws are tough, I'm sure that'll come with experience. People forget Allen has only started nine games so far.

Kyle Allen's 2-point conversion fade and OT laser are both throws that show what he WILL become because that's talent you can't really teach. He's going to continue to be inconsistent at times this year as well as do things like hang out in the pocket too long and lead sideline throws out of bounds, but that's fixable. The guy has AMAZING upside, and is actually pretty impressive now, if you re-remind yourself, as I have to do, that he's started 9 games in his whole college career and most of those starts came in the middle of his true frosh year during a locker-room disaster! People need to stop cheering Kyler when he subs in as a means to boo Kyle without actually doing it. Kyle HAS the goods, the coaches are just polishing them now and we need to let that process take shape.

I actually like the QB rotation, people should stop reading too much into it. It's a change-of-pace to keep players fresh and defenses on their toes, just like any other rotation. Allen's still the starter but Murray gives us a pseudo-wildcat wrinkle.
EDIT: And since this is my 5000th post, frick LSU

This X 1,000,000
It's great to have the ability to do this

Here is a Kyler nugget for you. His passer rating vs Ark was 206. Johnny's best SEC games were 203.8 (BAMA '13) & 202.5 (ARK '12). Trill's blow out of USCe was 161.4.

RSJ is definitely not a bust. I think we were all hoping for another Mike Evans. RSJ isn't mean on the field like Evans. Evans was a beast with attitude and he was going to outjump and outfight anyone for the ball. RSJ not same kind of guy.
RSJ is fine. He's a solid receiver with height. He just isn't Mike Evans.

Kirk is better than speedy. Speedy is one hell of an athlete but when it comes to football, Kirk is the better player. And a great athlete in his own right. Speedy hasn't had a fair chance imo though. We don't use him like we use Kirk. Spav frustrates the hell out of me. So much talent and he has no frking clue what to do with it. (Although he called a good game this past weekend) They're the exact same player. Stop sending Speedy down the sideline. That should be RSJs job. Have Kirk and Speedy work the inside seam routes and get the ball on screens and out of the back field. That combined with RSJ & Reynolds should be killer. Reynolds is the most underrated/under appreciated player we have. Dude can take over a game anytime he wants. We don't run enough plays for him
*most underrated in the country* dude can flat out play. I hope everyone realizes that

Whenever speedy gets "healthy" I'm ready to see him line up as a running back and used like Percy harvin. With how thin we are at the position id love to see a wrinkle tossed in there of a fast twitch type guy to complement Carson. Assuming he's healthy getting the ball in speedys hands more can only be a good thing.

Kyle Allen's 2-point conversion fade
Was just watching the replay. I think kyle actually underthrew this (like he has done before on the fade to Josh). It's worked, so maybe I shouldn't complain, but I think these throws are coming out a little flat. Fortunately Josh has either made a spectacular grab or jus flat out burned the db
