Well, yeah. But TCU is in, so...

It's going to suck in the coming years for the Houston Cougars. I imagine their president is probably putting out feelers for her next job and their AD is also looking to make a move soon. Their Athletic Department has been heavily subsidized by the school in preparation for joining the Big12 (I think it was 25+ million just this year). It was big12 or bust for them.
I have no inside info but my guess is t.u. strongly objected to them joining for just this reason. They can't poach their coach if UH makes a 25M move to the Big12. And enough sip lackeys fell into line to nix that.
BYU has that whole no-Sunday-activities thing going, plus it's hellabad travel, plus I'd expect BU to vote against them on general principle.
Cincinnati I have no idea why they'd reject. Geographically it doesn't make much sense, but they're closer than WVU. They have 43K students. Stadium holds 40K and I don't know, but I bet the average attendance is higher than TCU.

Was on Shaggy last night being entertained by realignment thread arguments and general bitching about the clusterfrick they are wrapped up in. Best line of the night:
Yes, the house is on fire but the fire department is going to have to wine and dine me before I let them rescue me.
Only from Texass fans... you can't make this stuff up.
In hindsight Dodds couldn't have picked a worse time to overplay his hand. I am thankful that our administration explored options and make a very ballsy move to join the SEC. The unexpected collateral damage to texass is pretty serious and they have increasingly been boxed into the b12 shitshow with no way out In the near future. No choice but to hold nose and bitch.

They'll just never stop thinking "We're Texas!", no matter what. Knee deep in **** with the whole country laughing and "We're Texas!" Unreal. YOU'RE the ones in trouble. Why would the SEC, which is doing better than ever, wine and dine YOU? YOU are the ones that will have to crawl to kiss the ring, you self-absorbed idiots.

tu will have to go independent because there's no conference that will want to deal with their bullshite.

I find it really interesting that, after 5 years in the Big 12, TCU has basically put itself back into complete irrelevance. After enduring five years of tougher competition (and let's be real the competition isn't that tough), they are spinning their wheels.

While the naysayers about our move to the SEC have been proven wrong, TCU's detractors have been damn near spot on.
Season plays out a LOT differently when you don't just have to get up for one or two games a year.

Don't understand why any good player would want to play in the Big 12. Mediocre to bad teams in mostly old, small stadiums in horrible college towns. The whole country thinks the Big 12 is irrelevant. Why would they want to play there?

They aren't. More top Texas players are going to SEC schools now.
quote:
From 2006 to 2012, Big 12 schools landed 73 percent of top-100 recruits from Texas, and the SEC got 12 percent. In the last four classes, the SEC has landed 42 percent of such recruits to the Big 12’s 28 percent.

Everyone, but TX media. ESPN personalities are finally coming around to this conclusion, but they will probably get a stern warning about being negative towards the Sips later this week.
The main reason we've seen recruits pick Big 12 teams are immediate playing time and F250s.

Here's a question for the board: let's say when the GOR ends and everyone jumps ship, will a school like OU really stay out in the cold if a conference says "we will take you, but not OSU"? Conferences like the B1G or SEC can afford to be choosy, if OU gets an offer that says, "we want you and KU, no riders, take it or leave it" will they really follow OSU into the mountain west?
It's not like they have options. The PAC isn't going to want OSU either. If I'm the PAC, I say I'll take TU (sans LHN) OU, KU, and Boise. Why bother with negotiation if you have all the cards and you know those teams are desperate?

When that does happen the SEC, ACC, & Big Ten aren't just going to let the Pac take who they want. This would likely be the final round of conference realignment for a long time. All the remaining conferences will wont the best final 2(or 4) teams to fill out their league.

I realize us Aggies love the thought of a bunch of Big 12 schools going to a Mountain West type conference, but if the Big 12 truly implodes it's very likely every power conference is going to 16.
There are 54 teams in the 4 major conferences now and 10 in the Big 12. ND has a spot which likely leaves one out, and maybe a Baylor or TCU gets swapped for a UH or BYU. But I don't see OK State and Tech getting relegated seeing as new teams will need partners in their new conferences to even out the numbers

The ACC needs 2, the Big Ten needs 2, the SEC needs 2, and the Pac needs 4.
That is 10 spots for the Big 12 schools plus ND and any other up and comers. The SEC isn't getting ND so who's the best left?

if it does, I call dibs on OU/Ok State.

I think OU to the SEC is kind of inevitable unfortunately. UT/OU won't go to the same conference because of exactly what you said, the other conferences would never let that happen, that would be a massive leg up for whatever conference pulled it off
OU to the SEC
Texas to the PAC
WVU to the ACC
ND becomes permanent in the ACC
KU to the B1G?
Not sure who would go along with those teams. Maybe KU OU and Texas find landing spots for their little bros to make numbers work. I think BYU to the PAC makes too much sense for them to not do it at that point. Who knows.
You would theoretically have
OU Ok State in the SECW with Auburn headed east
ND and WVU in the ACC
KU and K State in the B1G
Texas and BYU in the PAC putting them at 14. Do they go for a Tech and Baylor/UH/or TCU to go to 16?
