And that doesn't sound awesome to me. I don't want to play Texas every year if it means the only other OOC opponent we can get excited for is a school like Maryland

Why would it mean the only other schools we could play are ones like Maryland?

Clemson wasn't when we scheduled them either. If we want to ever compete for titles then we cannot afford to play 2 plus OOC teams on top of the SECW schedule. It's putting you at a disadvantage.

The obvious option if play on tu or play a slate of different P5 teams over the years.

Once we move to 16 team super conferences where the 4 winners make the playoffs then we can schedule whoever the hell we want outside of the conference.

Because how many other schools play a program like UT OOC every single year and then go around and schedule a school like ND? USC has had history doing it. Miami as well but after that? Ehghh

Also I just think it's dumb. There's no reason to play two major programs in OOC while then playing our conference schedule

Except we haven't scheduled Maryland. We got Colorado and Notre Dame scheduled after Clemson. A Colorado+Texas and Notre Dame+Texas combo sounds great to me.

Oh stop with the petty excuses man . Nobody can say it is or isn't going to happen. 9 game conference games are pure speculation at this point.

If you don't want to play Texas because of pride, then just come out and say it. At this point y'all are reaching for excuses. What's next?

and that is very unlikely to happen if we schedule UT every single year. Nor would I want that

That's the whole point. We already get the exposure, why help them?

I literally say this all time. I don't want to play a school from the big 12 because frick the big 12. I don't want A&M to schedule anything in football with any school in that conference until it's smoldering afterthought among the National history of college football like the SWC is. Because frick them. It doesn't mean that scheduling UT for every year in OOC won't cause some scheduling issues

No they don't. FS1 is national.

What you're thinking is of ABC and their regional coverage. But even those regional broadcasts are combined with ESPN2 to provide a true national broadcast.

You do realize we aren't hurting Texas by not playing them? They neither gain nor lose anything by playing us. Look at their future OOC schedule. They ain't hurting.

The only losers in this pissing match are the real fans.

I don't care if it's hurting them or not. I just personally don't want to see A&M doing anything with that POS conference in football until it's dead.

Their home schedule is terrible. They desperately need a headliner.

That doesn't mean we can't. Also, why would Texas/Maryland/Cupcake/FCS be worse than UCLA/cupcake/cupcake/fcs?

Hell, why would you even assume a school you have set up for 10 years down the road is going to automatically be good? Clemson was meh until very recently. UCLA has been average forever. Colorado hasn't been a big deal since the early 2000s. Oregon went from "OH frick we gonna die" to "damn wish that series had held b/c they are weak as hell now" in the blink of an eye. Texas themselves were crap the last few years and odds are we'd have a 6 game winning streak on them.

We can't all be crowing about how big and tough the SEC is and then turn around and cry the schedule would be too hard to win. Bama won't be incredible forever. LSU looks like they are about to slide. Auburn is forever up and down.

It's even possible the entire SEC is about to go on a downward trajectory. It's not going to be eternally THE SEC w/everyone else a clear cut below. We shouldn't be scared to schedule texas and another P5 school. Teams rise and fall all the time and there is no way to predict if who we set up a game with will be any good.

Also, can we have a list of P5 teams that don't count as games worth scheduling while we're at it? Maryland and the entire Big 12 (roughly 20% of OOC P5 schools) are apparently on the "we should never waste time with them" list. I'd like to know just what schools this board thinks are deserving of a home and home w/a school that most around the country couldn't tell apart from Texas Tech before we joined the SEC.

uhhhh i never said that maryland was a school that we should never waste time with. i said, if we schedule a long term series with texas it will almost certainly lead to only maryland type p5 schools on the OOC schedule going forward. i have no problem if we scheduled maryland or any other small p5 program in 2024 when we also play ND. im just not super into playing ND every single year and only getting those schools because of it. and thats before we get into what do we do when the SEC goes to 9 games

It’s not a matter of being scared. It’s a matter of not being stupid. While we’re at it let’s see if we can schedule 4 ooc games vs Bama. Sure we might go 0-5 but at least we’re not scared.

I cannot fathom why weazle doesn't grasp this, they desperately need a big game with us we get zero benefit out of it

They've been afraid to play us for 6 years, why should we grant them their wish when they come begging?
