It’s a club team and we don’t play in the SEC. it’s the Texas Collegiate Hockey Conference.

Schedule

We play mostly Texas teams, though we did play cal and UK.

Our record vs the sips this year is 2-1, and we play them at the cotton bowl over the next week.

Conf standings

It’s one sport we play the sips in, and we’re pretty dominant the last 10 years.

Update: We just completed a sweep of the sips and are headed to the playoffs. 5-4 and 5-2.

Any insight on the mechanics of going D1? I’ve been a proponent of adding lacrosse for some time now - especially with the lacrosse fields at Penberthy.

Would D1 hockey require a rink on campus? What do other schools with hockey do for ice?

And to answer your question, I don't think there is a requirement for a full-time ice rink for D1 Hockey. Only football has attendance requirements.

I think our problem is the bullshite Title IV. We would have to add a woman's sport to offset hockey. It would be a perfect time to add Gymnastics for women, because the SEC loves that sport.

D1 Hockey Attendance

Alaska Anchorage - Capacity - 750

Sacred Heart - Attendance - 312

We got this. Just need to add Women's Gymnastics and it's all good.

Thanks - title 9 is why Lacrosse made sense to me to be added next - Women’s team has more players on the field and Penberthy has lines/room for both.

Vandy and Florida have good D1 women’s programs and Georgia and South Carolina have robust HS programs.

Honestly, I like hockey better than lacrosse, just because it is considered a national sport with a legit professional league (not some bullshite startup that is destined to fail), but if lacrosse has more momentum, that's fine too.

Yeah, the issue is the added cost for another women's sport. The Hockey team would probably come close to paying for itself.

We also share a rink with a new Junior league team, The Texas Roadrunners

They apparently bought the rink. We have a capacity of around 1000 right now, and they're talking about adding a new level of box seats and some more bleachers.

You can buy beer there, but only before and after games.

Agreed - I’d pay to see hockey, not so much lacrosse. Better chance of being somewhat self-sustaining.
