We have had 8+ wins every season. We couldn't even do that in the Big 12.
Under Slocum, we went
6-6
9-4
11-3
8-4
7-5
8-4
6-6
in the Big 12. We only had a losing record in conference ONCE under Slocum...his final season, and that was one of the factors that got him fired.
Contrast that to Sumlin, who has had ONE season over .500 in conference.
Let's assume that Slocum only lost one nonconference game like Sumlin did. His records would look like this:
1996: 9-4 (assuming bowl win)
1997: 10-3
1998: 13-1 (national champions)
1999: 9-3
2000: 9-3
2001: 8-4 (no change)
2002: 7-6 (would have lost the bowl)

LSU is going to have one nasty recruiting class this year

Winning has nothing to do with most of these recruits.
In some ways you are correct, recruiting is about perception more than winning.
But that is bad for us quite frankly because that means other teams have historical perception advantages we don't have. Texas (and a lot of the SEC West) do have historical advantages of perception and branding that we have to overcome via winning.

I agree 100%. That is why at the end of the day I am a fan of John Sharp.
We didn't need a 100k stadium, Hymen was right about that. But by turning it into a dick measuring contest we pushed ourselves to build up to that level, which means our program will have a pressure to perform (to sell out that massive stadium) that we never previously had.
We will have a losing season again one day, and we will make a bad coaching hire in my lifetime. It is guaranteed unless I die soon.
But we also have the pressure (both financial and social) to never allow a Fran situation to happen again.

Maybe a couple years ago, but not anymore

I don't get not wanting Herman, either. But, the guy is going to UTw after this season, so it's a moot point.

I don't believe we've played this well since the early 90s.
You are incredibly naive to believe wins will automatically equate to better recruiting. The last time we had momentum, Sumlin rumors popped up about him going to the NFL or a "better" school. Trevor Knight will also depart after this year, so that will be used against A&M.
The instability at Ole Miss, Baylor, tu, and LSU was going to help A&M major the jump. Unfortunately we can't get out of our own way.

Because it would be better to assume he goes to Texas and he comes here than assume he comes here and he goes to Texas.

Depends on how Chad does this year.

And yet it's still not good enough.
Sumlin's best season (2012) was followed by a full recruiting cycle that lead to our best class in modern times (2014).
If that doesn't convince you we need more wins nothing will.

You said we are "winning in recruiting at unprecedented levels"
What does any of this have to do with my disputing that statement?

And you calling anyone else "naive" is the height of irony

I am a little nervous Baylor will take a shot at him. Obviously we would get him over them if we both tried at the same time, but I don't think he would leave there after say a year if we keep Sumlin until the end of 2017.

I do hate how he has taken swings at us. It's almost like he is preemptively interviewing for the Texas job.

Baylor fans said that Morris was begging for the job...
