Back to this class.
It feels strange being drama free. I look over this class and the only thing I feel like we could have done better is with edge rushers, but Johnson and Clemons are nothing to scoff at.
We load up at WR after losing a lot. We know about our QB situation and address it with a stud and another interesting prospect. We've been longing for LBs and I think we found not one, but two highly rated MLBs. TE has been nonexistent, but with Maz we need one and we found one with great genes. The OL haul looks solid.
After looking at it closer I guess we could have used a difference maker at CB. That's the hole. If we could have landed Shef then I don't think anyone would have had much to complain about.

RB is a huge hole in this class. When Ford leaves after this year, we'll have Trayveon, Bussey (who may still transfer) and Boyd along with Kibodi.
Kibodi frankly has no business at a program like ours. He's a Fran era player.

More importantly though, nearly every highly ranked player he signed was a bust. He also signed some DOGS as backup plans.

So in 2018, we will still be 4 backs deep plus freshmen. I think Kibodi can be a nice complement back. He's got a big frame and I can see him being a nice short yardage/goalline back once Ford is gone.
It's not overly hard to find good RBs and they can play and be successful early. If Trayveon leaves early or we strike out again next year then I think we're in some toruble.

According to 247 composite:
2003-14th (25 kids)
2004-10th (30 kids)
2005-11th (25 kids)
2006-17th (24 kids)
2007-42nd (14 kids)
With JFF, SEC Move, and the best facilities in our region by far how much better is Sumlin doing?

A lot I think, that 42nd class was the worst class we have signed since they started tracking that sort of thing.
And that top 10 2004 class was a mirage beyond that of our disaster 2013 class.

Is Etwi still around or did he fall off the depth chart entirely?

He only signed 14 kids. It was an obvious disaster that matched the product he put on the field. Overall he recruited fine though.
Our program, independent of coach, is a top 20 recruiting program historically.
With our current setup (kyle, sec, games actually on tv) we should NEVER do worse than 15th.
We make all these changes to improve but we don't ever raise the bar for expectations.

This sums up "To Aggy" quite nicely.

Woah, no way. Maybe top 25. Maybe. Sherman signed two classes outside of the top 20. I used to get excited about the top 20 classes.

I would say top 20 is our floor now. We have gotten a little spoiled recently with a down Texas and a crappy recruiting (until this year) OU.

yeah, he is. With Ford and Williams taking most of the snaps, there just wasn't a lot of pt to go around this year
He'll be a JR next year and eligible for a scholarship. I'm not sure if he's getting one or not though because he's fallen to about 5th on the depth chart for next year.

y'all spend waayyyy too much time obsessing over rankings.
They aren't an exact science and while there are a few elite classes every year (a la Bama and OSU this year), for the most part, the difference between the really good classes, say 5 to around 20, is very small. And who actually enrolls can be a pretty large factor that the numbers y'all are discussing completely disregards.

I agree that overall the rankings are overrated. Our second worst class the last 15 years (the 34th ranked 2011 one) had guys like Evans and Manziel in it.
With that said, I think the recruiting rankings matter at some level because coaches (including Sumlin) and players pay attention to them. In a way they have become a lagging indicator of how well a coach is perceived to be selling his message, which is then tied to fan patience with said coach.
Personally I get more excited about individual elite players rather than highly ranked classes due to how the ranking system calculates the total.

Feels good to win the head to head over OU for him.
That is it, we are done for NSD right?
