The difference for me is
1) If someone doesn't want to pay for my software or has convinced themselves they can't afford it, fine. They don't get to use it. Most everybody understands this.
2) I'd willingly pay a ridiculous sum to watch this game, but that's not an option. I paid PPV for the Pepperdine series in Malibu and a one-month fee for the horrible-quality Rice and UH games last year and would do that again. But no. There are NO providers here unless I want to switch to crappier service. And that ain't happening.
