Does anyone have an update on Priest Willis? Also, are we in on Clifton Garrett? I'd assume so based on Chavis taking him out of HS.

Clif Garrett was struggling with the climate in LSU, that was part of his reasoning for leaving.
No reports on PW yet but I think we're probably going to get him.

He's not really a 3*. IS Jr has offers from Bama, ND, LSU among others. This is an elite, elite pickup. Anyone who watches Smith's film knows that barring injury, he's going to play TE in the NFL. Give whatever star rating you want.
Btw, for those that don't know, Smith's dad played at ND for Holtz and played against us in both the early 90s Cotton Bowls iirc. He was a 1st round pick as a TE and played about 10 years for the Saints before bouncing around at the end of his career.
Also, not talking about Smith here, but y'all need to differentiate between a 3* that is taken late in the game because we need to fill a position and one that camps with other prospects and earns an offer. Recruiting can be tricky because you don't know how fast a guy really is vis a vis other players you are looking at, does he play his size, how well he takes coaching, how hard he works, etc. And while you can watch a practice (during certain NCAA periods) or a game, it's hard to eval these things. Thus the camp setting.
Stop sweating offers at our camps. Those are going to be really well-informed.

I expect we'll hear he'll enroll mid-summer as I think it's too late for Summer I

Recruiting is going very well right now. Don't let the message boarder chicken littles or LSU trolls get you down.

Honestly, I'm not too concerned with the run of three stars. Irvin Smith plays a position that isn't highly valued by recruiting services and that doesn't even exist in many offenses these days. His film is objectively that of a nationally ranked four star.

A lot of people think hes going back north. Its going to depend on what JC he goes to. If he stays in the south, i could see that happening but ehhh....

He's a big pick-up without question. It just points towards the fact that Christiansen is putting his stamp on the offense. Remember his prior offenses, especially his tenure at Missouri, they played a big role. I know its still Spavital calling the plays but the way we are recruiting there.... all signs are trending towards that. We're still Air Raid based but Sumlin knows we gotta have more balance, more diversity on O. Making Smith a priority and getting him into the fold is a most welcome suprise.
