As noted above, Divinity to LSU. This broke hours ago, but I just read it and had to vent a bit. Divinity's comments on A&M aren't a surprise, but that doesn't make it any easier to hear: "But then hearing the stuff at A&M about Kyle Allen, Kyler Murray and all of them leaving, the word was trust. I didn't want to go eight hours away from home and mess around and something happen."
I can't blame him, but our inability to get LBs is frustrating. We've got 1 LB commit and ... "Divinity becomes the third linebacker to commit to LSU joining fellow All-Americans Rahssan Thornton of Shoemaker (Texas) and Erick Fowler of Manor (Texas). Thornton and Divinity were teammates at the Under Armour All-America Game while Fowler will play in next week's U.S. Army All-American Bowl."

I don't blame him; we need to get our coaching issues settled and right the ship

I have to think we are going to send out some late offers.
Is that a must? Can't we just take a smaller class and save the spots for next year?
That seems like what is best for the program, because either way we should be expecting our recruiting to improve next year.

If we miss out of Mcculloch, which is looking likely, do we only want to take 1 LB this year? I know we took 5 last year with one being a Juco, Moore looks like the best out of them, not sure how much promise the others have shown, only really seen them on special teams.

We haven't taken a full class the last few. Eventually you end up with the equivelant of self imposed sanctions

Recruiting is a probability game. The more you take, the more that will ultimately turn out to be contributors for you. I wouldn't pass on any guys who might work out just because you hope you will land a more coveted player next year.
Baylor was down to QB5 at one point. We need some more options at several spots. Then we need to develop them.

The guys who don't workout transfer or "retire" anyway.
Shouldn't ever leave scholarships on the table.

At this rate we may not have a top 25 class

Not that we seem to be at a crunch for numbers but how does a transfer like that count? Only against the team total?

Only counts against the 85 man limit

Which we're going to fall well below.
Here are the players remaining so far:
Transfers from other schools - 4 (Ford, Willis, Hilliard, Knight)
Former Walk-ons - 2 (McQueen, Niederhofer)
2012 - 1 (Edward Pope)
2013 - 11 (10 if Hall leaves)
2014 - 18 (16 if Reynolds leaves and the Speedy transfer is true)
2015 - 25 (24 if Bradford can't return)
That's a grand total of FIFTY-TWO scholarship players remaining. We would have to sign 33 players to hit the 85-man limit.

I'd also look for a high school prospect to add. Probably too late for highly coveted QBs. But there are probably some guys who played QB in high school that are being recruited elsewhere at WR or DB. Let him have a go at the QB spot. Another guy like Moses Reynolds. I like versatile players anyway.

My count has closer to 60 guys, but I may not have all the attrition.
Regardless, we don't have to worry about the 85 man limit. We've actually been way too far below it for my tastes.

Everyone happy? He should be a good addition. Some LSU fans wanted him.

With all the negativity swirling around our program, this gives me reason to hope that perhaps things on the inside are not as bad as I was beginning to fear. Does this make sense?

Perfect sense to me
But to many this is evidence that the sky is falling

Could be interpreted as a sign that we don't expect to pick up a qb in the 2016 class. Is Knight eligible right away?

he's a graduate transfer so yes. He can practice in the spring and play in the fall. And he wanted to come to A&M to begin with but decommitted when we also took Matt Davis (and OU offered his twin brother)
I think we'll press on looking for another in this class but it's awful late in the game so you absolutely have to take Knight.
